Muriatic acid and lilac roots

Is this stuff effective in killing lilac roots. It is a big one. All cut down and liquified with acid. Just had it handy and no salt or would have done that. Found it bush was trying to get into basement. If this don't work, will get a bag of salt. Thanks for the info. Dave
 
I cut down a big holly bush- they're notorious for re-sprouting. Cut it off at ground level, painted the fresh stump with a combination of Roundup and diesel, put some Saran Wrap over it and covered it with dirt. No regrowth of any kind.
 
I dunno if it would kill the roots, but our lilacs won't even think of blooming unless we load 'em up on lime, so it will probably stunt them pretty bad to dump acid on 'em.
