Sediment bowl gasket

I changed the gasket out on my ford 9n sediment bowl and now have gas leaking from around the seal. its the same diameter as the old one. It is a rubber one from Napa. How do i stop the leaking?

Might have to replace the whole unit. Over tightening them warps the base and they never will seal.

I have had better luck with the cork ones. Our local independent
tractor repairman has them for 50 cents, so it is worth a try.

The cork ones work better and thanks for reminding me that I need to go get all the ones my local O'Reilly's will have on hand since I am going to town in a few. They cost around $1.25 each there and when I get them I buy all they have.
As for your leak try soaking it in gas for a few minutes to soften it up then reinstall it

Cork seems to work better as the others have said. When I tighten the bowl, I give the bowl a couple of light 1/8 turn twists right when it contacts the gasket but before it is tight. Seems to settle it in place a little better. Jim

I wouldn't panic if its not pouring out. probably seal up once it gets gas soaked and swells a bit. had one i took off a tractor that had sat for ten years to clean a gel (gas residue?) out. re installed and filled tank it leaked at first too.(dry for to long?) but sealed up in about 4 hrs. Rocko.

As others have said, Cork is best. I use 3/32"cork sheet goods, and I have a set of punches from harbor freight, that punches out the whole gasket, all in one stroke. Also, sometimes a bail screw will strip out, that costs about $0.10 to fix, slip a dime between the glass bowl, and the tightening nut, and you have it fixed!

I am interested in your harbor freight things. Does it have 2 cutting edges so one hit cuts the outer diameter and the inner diameter? I was going to try to make one but this sounds like I could buy something easier.
