Factory Straight Pipe Farmall 1206?

On slow days at work, all of the guys in our office will turn to discussing tractors, farming, and usually, tough times growing up in the 80's. None of us got the chance to go home to farm, so we do a lot of discussing about "back in the day."

With 6 guys, we have all the major brands covered. I am the IH guy, and today's discussion centered around straight pipes, aftermarket turbos and general go-fast parts.

I contend that the Farmall 1206 may have been the only tractor ( modern stuff anyway) that came equipped with a straight pipe, and nobody could think of anything else that did.

Am I correct?

Interesting subject.

Not a tractor but M and L gleaners had no muffler.
Just the turbo and aspirator for the air cleaner.
That was it and that is all the parts book shows.

I think the allis tractors that used the
appropiate engines had mufflers.

Not in the same time period but I wonder about the
D19 and D21 XT's though.

No, but the D19 was the first with factory turbo. My 190 and 190XT sales lit shows a straight pipe, and the cutaway for the 190XT shows the turbo going directly into the straight pipe. No under hood muffler.

My M2 has the 130 hp 649T with turbo, no muffler, my F2 has the gutsy little 4 cyl 95 hp diesel....I don"t think it has a muffler, and it"s too cold and late to check!!! Only AC tractor with the XT designation was the 190XT, bigger (85 lp, 89 gas, 93 diesel) version of the non-turbo 190, (75 gas, 77 diesel). BTW- sales lit shows the dual front wheels are optional- years ago that was std., wide was extra cost option. Single front wheel was also an option on the 190/190XT.

We are straying from tractors a bit, John, but in more modern times the 2388 CIH combine had a straight pipe with a muffler as an option. Listening to eight screaming turboes in the same field, coming out of a dust fog on a calm summer evening is quite an experience.

To get back to tractors, Case didn't list a muffler for the S-D series but they were far from being turboed. Jim

We ran a factory muffler on our 706 Diesel, without a cab. And a straight pipe on our 766 Diesel with a cab.

I was tested by an audiologist at a good hospital. I was diagnosed with "Farmers ear"
I also suffered for years with tinnitus. Recently the tinnitus has subsided a little.

In crowds, or with any sort of background noise I cannot hear chit! I should have had a muffler on the 766 and always worn ear plugs or muffs. Hindsight is 20/20.

So what is the name of your favourite tractor company that went bankrupt and was bought out or merged? Oh yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,all of them except Deere.
