I'm thinking it would be an industrial derivitive of a 3910.
340 should have double reduction rear end and the wishbone style front axle but with a heavy non adjustable front axle.

It doesn't directly equate to any ag model. It has a 192 c.i. diesel and 48 h.p. at the flywheel. That would put it between a 3600 and 4600, maybe a bit closer to the 3600.

Yep - 3910 equivalent. I was thinking it was older than the series 10, but it isn't. But it has a front bolster more like 5000, and a 9000# capacity axle... looks like a box-type axle from what I can see in the sales lit pics.

Tractor Data says that it has a 175 inch diesel engine and wet disc brakes, which would make it similar to a 2910, although older! (340A was 1983 & prior, and 340 older yet) Also came with either an 8x2 or a 6x4 transmission, and Ind PTO.
HTH, Dave
Okay guys, now tell me that TD is mistaken, wouldn't be the 1st time. LOL

Ultra,
It appears that the tractor that you and FF are describing is a 340B, and the 340 & 340A have a smaller engine & lighter one piece front axle, like 335's
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Dave
Edit: 340 & 340A have cast front axle, while 340B has the fab box beam. it also appears that between the A & B tractors is when they went to the heavier front bolster.
