Victor made us a target holder from P.V.C.tubing while the snow fell.Yep I Know what one of youse guys will say, How do you keep from Hitting the P.V.C with the slug and busting it? answer, Can't do it. but it's an easy repair.Plastic is a lot easier to repair plus no ricochet danger as with metal frame. Gonna use it where the tractor wagon sits.will move the wagon when the snow quits so we can practice practice practice. Our German Shepard hates the silhouettes (pictures),growls, shows teeth, hair up on the back, thats a sight to behold.Had the chance to talk with the DOJ about the Castle doctrine, Sent us an E.Mail with all the information we asked for. Swell gentleman. One who isn't ashamed to talk with us lol. Also seen where the Nasty cop got fired in Canton Ohio for his remarks to a citizen he stopped. No benefits, will never be any thing more then a Mall cop,if that. Watched the film on You tube. Department did the right thing. Dropped the hammer (fired)the idiot. JM Observation.Got more brass coming for re-loading. Cant figure out why the cost of shipping EMPTY NEW BRASS cost so much. Not a dangerous product. NO Primers. No powder. No lead . Thought you might like to see what were up to during the snow weather.LOU

Lou, brass has trace amounts of lead in it as an anti corrosive. I think it was the late 90's EPA and OSHA decided it was HAZMAT and put in place new rules that make it more expensive to work with and transport.

When you get that practice done give me a shout, we can do an egg shoot.

Rick

Ken I'm working off of what I remember from when they made those decisions. I seem to recall one/more than one of the news articles saying trace amounts.

Rick

No need to worry there....the real test of marksmanship isn't done on paper men....the real test is when the traget is shooting back.....

Nothing Haz-mat about lead. Shipped by US mail in flat rate boxes all the time.

Cartridge brass is Lead free, Alloy is approximately 70-30 Copper to Zinc(varies by manufacturer), with trace amounts of Iron, Silicon, and Chromium.

RG, Thats what we figure(mail by flat rate boxes) but their shipping almost triples or more the cost of the flat rate boxes.Granted it's their product, but if they want to charge more for the product and leave shipping standard, seems more of a realistic approach. I can see for dangerous things like powder, primers, due to fire or other sources of igniton a hazardous charge, but brass? Only thing I can figure is they want to get you for cheap price of brass shells(empty) but make up on S+H. It's all for fun anyways, keeps my hands busy doing something worthwhile (reloading).
Have a goodun.

Roy,
Victor will make a double spike base for the target to slip over once the rods are driven into the ground.Easier to move from place to place. We didn't wish to carry around more than a few items for fear of losing them, and CRS will seem to rear its head when you least expect it.LOL
It's alot cheaper to build than to buy one, atleast we can get replacement parts.LOL

Nebraska Cowman,
It's all for fun and practice, so most people are welcome to our house anytime.

Only bring your own ammo and pistol, as we aren't insured for a public or private pistol range.L.O.L.
We we're looking at some of the dirty bird Zombie targets( easier to see where you hit at a distance) but have to use the old ones we bought about 10 years ago first.
Thanks for the reply,
Lou & Victor

We tried to give em a gun,but they just won't take it.LOL Even tried telling them to leave, but you just can't reason with a dummy(target)LOL.
So what the hay, we'll just shoot em where they stand (targets)LOL.

If I hadn't put heat in my shop this year I would have a lot more ammo loaded. I have 5 gallon buckets of brass piled up, much is even processed. With the heated shop there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day now.

At least all the equipment should be ready to go when the weather brakes.

Thanks Tom,
Seems all the pleading and begging to grab for the gun the silouette won't "REACH" for the gun.LOL
The target stand they showed in a few catalogs, was made from metal, and plastic Tee's.Seemed to us if by a chance the metal was struck with a bullet, there was a chance of a ricochet happening and someone getting hurt.So plastic (PCV) was the best and easiest to use for us.A plus also for repairing and safey. Our cost was below $10.00 for the parts and no shipping or handling charges. So it is all good.
Thanks for the reply,
LOU & Victor

It figures Roy,
Seems even air has something in it so the Gov't will find a way to make the supplier charge a extra handling fee for harmful products to the user.LOL.
We went to order 2 plastic magazine finger rests(bump pads) their price was $5.95 for both, went to check out and added S+H. The S+H was $16.80 not including the part.Needless to say, they kept em.

Egg shoot? Only if there's a hot pan under em for scrambled or maybe over easy.LOL. I'll see if I can get good enough to flip a coin and hit it dead center also.LOL.
Keep warm,
LOU

RG,
We'll it's almost da*med if ya do or da*med if ya don't. LOL. So far all our equipment was put away with no repairs needed,so far.But spring will be around the corner and time will be taken up with tasks, not even thought of even with the longer daylight, seems not enough time to get done and still have some "play time".LOL.Since we purchased our newest guns, stocking up on expendables keeps us "off the streets, and outta trouble" LOL.

Atleast when the equipment is repaired during the winter, most major breakdowns "shouldn't" be a factor during spring.Regards,
LOU & Victor

Looking in my hazmat book I don't see brass listed. I do see small arms cartridges listed but as an ORM-D item. They aren't a Haz Mat. Lead itself is not a Haz Mat either. Not as far as DOT is concerned. Check for yourself- http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=ecfr&sid=91e4b8e033edd9ae4b08da6da38ef833&rgn=div6&view=text&node=49:2.1.1.3.8.2&idno=49

Try Grafs or Mid South Shooters Supply. They seem to have about the best combination of shipping and price around.
