946 Mid - pivot MOCO Revisited

I talked to the salesman again, and have decided I will go with the tines, not the rollers. But the next question is, I wanted to go with the drawbar hitch, but all I can find are 2-points. I really don't want a 2-point because I hate to have it slamming back and forth on my 3-point. The salesman said that if I go with the drawbar hitch, they have a constant velocity joint in it, which I do not want. I just figured that 2-point and the drawbar, neither one, had a constant velocity joint. So if it is true that I will have to have a constant velocity joint on the drawbar, then I will just go with the 2-point. Other than possibility of the constant velocity joint on the drawbar type, what are the advantages of a 2-point? I will probably have to go with the 2-point anyway, since the salesman said he has two 2-points coming in, and can not locate one with a drawbar.
Thanks for any suggestions!

I think you will like the 2 point. What size tractor will you use? I think you can use a quik-hitch with the two point.

You can adjust the tine conditioner to do what ever amount of conditioning you want. Change speeds and underside hood to tine clearance.

One advantage of the 2 point is the real tight turns you can make. But go for the type that has a swivel gearbox between the 2 points. I had a John Deere that used a normal power shaft and 2 point set-up but it kept breaking the power shaft off the tractor,Dealer said it was lack of grease and travel even though we were greasing twice a day.The problem was the length the shaft had to travel every time you turned and no matter how much grease with 100 plus hp going through the shaft under load it just did not want to travel. before the season was over they done a recall and we all got new drawbars.

Go with the 2pt. It doesn't push around much at all back there, and its easier making turns. I have cut lots of hay with these machines and love every minute of it.

Tines or impellers beat the leafs off alfalfa. Our 956 with two point pushes our 7220 magnum around on hills.

My 946 has the two-point and a friend of mine has another brand with the drawbar hitch because it was cheaper. He is looking for a two-point hitch. They are much better. They allow for tighter than 90 degree turns. Other than cost I can't imagine why anyone would want something else. I mow with a 4440 also and it doesn't "push it around" at all. I run the hitch to where the pto shaft is pretty well level up and down and it works just fine. And you will be glad you went with the impeller system. Mike

You will like the two point hitch. Just use a quick hitch and set your sway blocks so it does not have much side movement. The real advantage is the easy hook up. You can just set the hitch down on the skid plate and unhook the pto/hose and go. NO jack to mess with. To re-hook just back up and lift with the quick hitch.

I only sold one draw bar hitch unit and the guy hated it from day one. When you use a draw bar hitch unit they install turn limiters on the hitch so you don't turn so tight to break the u-joints. These turn limiter really make using one of them a real PIA.

When you turn a u-joint tight it causes a change in the speed of the shaft. That is why drive shafts make a knocking noise. All a constant velocity joint does is one joint cancels out the speed change the other joint causes.
