Things People Do!!!!!

I looked at a Kubota diesel tractor Saturday. Owner stated he had owned the tractor for about [b:3fe3b2440c]FOUR YEARS [/b:3fe3b2440c]and it had a new paint job when he bought it.
It ran ok and seemed to be in good shape. I asked what kind of oil he used and he stated Chevron diesel oil. He also stated it had been a while since it had been changed and needed it. He then stated it would use a small amount and he would just add.
To my dissatisfaction, I looked under the tractor and noticed that NO paint was broken on the oil drain plug!!
Although I questioned him, he stated he had changed the oil.
I left because I know of no way to drain the oil without , at least, leaving wrench marks on the drain plug????
Oh yes, the filter had been painted along with the rest of the tractor.

Pump it out. Pretty common on marine engines.
Not saying that he changed the oil, just saying it's not real unusual to do oil changes without draining it out the bottom of the sump.

If he was just a rural home owner he may not have put more then 20-30 hours a year on it. If it ran ok and would suit your needs I might still consider it if the price was right. If he was honest enough to tell you it used a little oil, he might have told you if there was anything else wrong with it. You said it seemed to be in good shape. How did the rest of his equip look? and was the house and yard kept up? Those things can tell you a lot.

Jiles He MAY have had a four wheel drive KUBOTA which it is common to have TWO engine oil drains , one on each side. We see it all the time home owner does not read the book and never gets all the oil drained.Almos all the 4 wheel units are that way.. As a rule of thumb on the 10 to 15 year kubotas, engine is about the last thing to look at.. Check the clutch and clutch free play, check the steering good and look at the condition of the radiator. People run them cloged up.

I may be wrong, but I think two drain plugs were common on the L Series, not familiar with that set up on others. Also most recent smaller series are probably hydro.
