I have a friend that has a Navy colt pistol in perfect shape that was made in 1861,Has any one have any idea of value or where to look,Ive checked Gunbrokers

James the only real way to get the value is to take it in somewhere that can evaluate the condition. On something like that condition is everything. A quick check shows anywhere from parts value for a junk gun to 4K for a "good" condition one.

A perfect 150 year old gun that lived through the Civil War??? Unlikely at best.

There are at least 10 fakes for every real original Colt cap gun.

James, Call, Write to Colt Co. give them the serial #, They can tell you Everything! about the pistol. Date of Mfg, Finish, Caliber, grips, and the shop, and addreess to where it was shipped to be sold at!
A Certificate of Authenticity! It will add to the provenance and substantiate if it is a real colt or an imposter!!!! They will do this for free last I knew!!! Hope this helps!

Is there a Cabela's store nearby. Take it in to their gun room and ask them what they will give you for it. The 1861 Colt If it is genuine it would be worth north of $15,000 and possibly up to $30,000.

If it is in fact a true Colt from that year it is worth a lot but it could well be a copy. I have a copy of a Navy Colt I use when I black powder hunt and it is worth maybe $200 at best but a true 1861 Colt could bring in well over 15K depending on serial number and condition

I agree. If this was authenticated and in "near perfect" condition, it would be worth some bucks.

However, I have a replica 1851 Confederate Navy .44 cap & ball sixshooter made in Italy maybe 10 years ago. Even with the limited use I've given it, it's showing wear. BTW, with simple fixed sights, it's probably about the most accurate handgun I own. It just has a good feel to it. And that's going against such notables as Ruger, Springfield, Taurus, etc.

There is a gun show tomorrow not far away from me. There will be a few dozen original civil war Colts there, real ones. And maybe 100 repros. The most expensive I saw last show -in October, was 3500. He would take $2500. My cousin sold one- original 36 cal one, but a factory reject, Colt sold seconds to Eli Whitney, who was to leave the number, but never mark them with either company name and address. He was lucky. Some one gave him 500. It was shot out, no rifling left- it obviously was in a war or 3. The pair is of my Rogers and Spencer, and Eli Whintey- made by them. The close up is of his Colt. I would like to see pics of your friend's....

I've got one made by Colt, about 1978. Colt
tooled up and made a few hundred, and ran serial
numbers from when original production ceased.
Is it a "Reproduction"? or a continuance of
production? It's an original Colt, made in the
Colt factory!

I have one of those too!!! Good question about originality.

71 to 78 colt assembled them from Italian parts. 78-82 colt had Iver Johnson assemble them from Italian parts.
