I have a 8n
When I lower the hitch into a mid position, it does not stay at the level I put it at. This is a problem when using th brush hog as I have tom continually look back to monitor the height of the cutter and adjust. I think this is a problem with the hydraulics but don"t know how to fix

Easiet fix is to put a set of chains from the toplink attachment on the tractor to the draft link ends on the mower. When you drop the mower, it can only go down as far as the links will allow it.

You will get more and better answers in the 9N/2N/8N forum down below. That said do you have the position/draft control lever in the position setting?? Little lever under the seat on the right side and it should be up not down for position control

make sure your draft control lever(under the seat, r/s, about 4 or 5 inches in length) is in the vertical, not horizontol position.horizontol is for plowimg only. any other implement,it will only hold position with the hydraulic lever in complete raised position and do as you desribed.MARK

Tx Jim hit the nail on the head. Those N model fords were terrible about not staying set. If you don't have a rooster comb, do you have an overunning clutch on it? this is put on the pto and the bush hog drive shaft attached to it so the bush hog doesn't keep driving the tractor after the clutch pedal is depressed.
