O.T Thanking others.

Let me start off by saying thanks to Y.T and a great site. This is the heart of being thankful to folks who are extremely tolerant of others who seem to be in such a great hurry. My reading the posts brings to mind the subject of thanks for a job well done,( now I'm Not talking music)by those who serve our needs. Case in point. When My son and I went to the sporing goods shop in Au Claire(Sheelds) the Young gentleman who waited on us was kind and cautious. When he asked us what we were looking for (we were going from Pistol cases to pistol cases)I spoke up and explained the problem I had with the 44 mag at my age with bad wrists and wanted a lighter caliber stainless steel pistol. He unlocked the case, handed me (after securing the weapon) the 380 auto. Just what I wanted. He knew what I needed the minute I told him the problem I had.Victor had already made up his mind (45 long slide)still the gentleman explained both weapons throughly and with complete knowledge of them.He helped us with the paper work. With the required waiting period behind us we went back to pick up the pistols. The first day I asked for his card, which he handed me, This allowed me to write the C.E.O. to let him know just what kind of employee he had in his service. Made 2 copies. 1. to corporate headquarters, and one to the group leader of sales (in the store) so that my letter could be made a part of his employment record. Todays mail came with a swell reply from the C.e.o. telling me the sales person will be rewarded and so nice to hear from a customer that chose his store. It was necessary for me to write such a letter, so sales people like this gentleman would know that all customers aren't terrible people that DEMAND exemplary service every time they visit their store.Got me to wondering, just how many of you folks do this ? Just curious .Regards LOU

At my local JD dealer the guys there are great. Parts guys always joking around and the service manager answers all my questions and lets me borrow tools if needed. Donuts in the morning or case of beer during the holidays. I might do 5k a year in parts I just repair tractors for extra cash. chris

Lou, I have done similar things such as if Im at a store or restaurant etc and get exceptional polite service above and beyond whats required, I go and ask for the manager and tell them about it. However a reason Ive done such is because if the service is horrible I also report it to the manager and figure I should be fair and equal. The last time I reported bad service the owner THANKED ME for letting him know saying otherwise he wouldnt know to correct it and maybe 10 customers would have been driven away. Sometime thereafter I went to the same business and the same attendant provided much better service and, of course, I again let the owner know and he was quite pleased.

Some may think Im a grouchy old fuddy duddy (which I am basically) because I complain (they say just let it go) if its warranted but I also compliment and reward for good service. Thats just how Im wired.

Sunday morning after church, we went out for dinner with my elderly aunt & uncle. It was a new place they wanted to try, it was very busy and the staff were really jumping.

My aunt is just recovering from pneunonia and my uncle is hard of hearing, it seemed like they had an especially hard time figuring out what they wanted and changed their minds a couple of times.

Our waitress was just the nicest person on the face of the earth. She happily crossed out changed orders and helped them decide what they wanted. I was watching her closely and she never so much as raised an eyebrow.

After the meal, my uncle left her the customary 15% tip. I whispered to my wife that we would make up for it with our tip. As we were paying, I asked the man at the cash register if he was the owner, he was. I told him how happy we were with the waitress and he should do everything in his power to keep her around. He was genuinely pleased that I took the time to tell him. I'm sure she got the much deserved pat on the back.

I always try to recognize good service, I usually just keep my mouth shut when it's not so good.

Lou,

Count me in, and I always thank them in the form of a hand written letter, which just seems more sincere to me.

I consider myself to be pretty cost-conscious (cheap) as a rule, but when I encounter treatment like you had, paying more for a said item is not a problem.
