tire chains?

Hey folks,
my tractor has 12.4 x 32 tires on it but the only chains I can find on two American sites I found are 11.2x32. Is 12.4 not a common size, or is the 11.2's gonna fit? Thanks for the help.

Dave

You'd be better off going with a 12.4x36. I think the 32" part is the hard to find one. www.tirechains.com has a bunch of 12.4, ust no 12.4x32. Better too big than too small.

if you cant find the size your looking try to find a little bigger ones and usually you can take a few links out. i had 18.4x34 size chians and reduced them them for 16.9x28.

Measuring is best. Tread patterns and industry
differences are serious. The chains will come off
the tractor unless the cross bars will extend down
the sidewall about 100mm (4") inside and out.
Measure with a tape across from side to side as
above and have the supplier measure their chain
width laying flat. Length should be the circumference at the diameter where the tread bars
end. I like to tighten them with a turn buckle on
each side, then wire the turn buckle to prevent
loosening. Jim

I've bought two sizes from Tirechains.com (13.6 x 28 and 16.9 x
24) and in both cases the chains were too long around the
circumference of the tire and needed to be cut down.

My concern would be that the narrower 11.2 cross chains wouldn't
come far enough down the sidewalls of the 12.4 tire to stay in place.

I bought tire chains for my garden tractor made for a large auto tire. I used a bolt cutter to
cut the length to fit my turf tires. The chains had never been used and I paid $9.00 for them. They worked well when on snow or plowing the garden. This was second set I bought and had never been used. Use of radial tires stopped the use of chains. Hal

Here are the ones I have used on a 12.4 x 32 tires. There are several Belarus tractors around me and some of them have your size tires on them. I just had to remove one cross bar and shorten the side chains.

(RM862) Tire Chain - 11.2 x 38 - 12.4 x 36 - 12.4 x 38 - 1 Pair

Just found this site a few minutes ago emailed them about shipping.... Can't beat the price compared to what I've found over here...

Thanks.

12.4 is a common size BUT in 28" or 38" rim, some 36" rims but no 34 or 32" of that size tire, no 32" rims for that size. A chain for a 10-11.2 by 34" as used on the John Deere MT, 40T, 420T and 430T might work as that tire would be the same height as yours but then being a narrower tire the cross chain might not be long enough to stay in place.
