compound and or cross bow questions

hi guys and gals this site never fails me I know this is a little out of the tractor site but i am retiring and would like to try shooting a cross or compound bow to get rid of some of the deer on the farm-- havn/t shot one for since i was a kid loooong time ago would like any info on what size et. lbs i need and if any has one reasonable in the chatham ny area please contact me =ps thanks for the info on the nufield backhoe loader blw
 
In NY at this time I think you can only use a crossbow during gun season not bow season. The DEC wanted to permit crossbows during bow season but the state legislature would not approve it.
 
Best to go to bow shop with a range , try out few different ones. They can get you on target as far as poundage, pull length etc. Save you lot of headaches over trial and error shooting the wrong bow for you then getting discouraged . If you go compound ,,,I love the 2 blade Rage mechanical broadheads, deadly ,,very accurate and reliable . Seen them shot through a car door and still work . Deer don't go very far when hit with them .
 
Crossbow is a gun with a string. Site it in and you're good to go. Compound bow is going to require allot more effort, skill, ability and patience. It's not for everybody but it sure is allot of fun.


Let me know if you need help taking any of those deer out. I'm having to drive allot of miles just to get the chance to hunt this year. :cry:
 


First check your state laws. Most states issue cross bow permits to people with disabilities that prevent them from drawing or hold at a full draw. Also check the minumum draw weight for hunting.

Also check on the liablity for letting someone hunt on your land. In MN if your sell/rent hunting rights you are liable if they het hurt but if you let someone on for free you are not unless there is a failure on your part.
