recharging 12 volt rechargeable stuff??

Hey folks,
I have a couple jumper packs, and a couple cordless things that are 12 volt. I buy them from the States because the price is usually less than half what I find here. Problem is that the AC chargers for them are 110 volt. I have a transformer I use to plug them into but noticed it getting warmer than I feel comfortable with. Don't really want to buy a new transformer. Could I just cut the cord and put on alligator clamps then hook them to a battery that I have on a charger? Or just skip the battery and hook the charger up to the clips? I want to still be able to use the jack that comes on the charger cords and plug into the equipment.

Thanks, Dave

12 volts is 12 volts..connect to a 12 volt battery charger.Any 12 volt charger that comes with a power tool can be adapted to the battery you have, you may need to solder some leads and use alligator clips but you will ultimately get 12 volts to the battery..not a 14.4 or 18 charger..a 12 volt charger.I'm guessing a 12 volt auto battery charger would be the best conversion or hook up.

Yes it"ll work with the batt charger(trickle charger only),but you got to keep an eye on it .
I left one cordless drill batt on all night,in the morning it was melted all to "ell

brings up another ???? , I have a 14.4v makita set and will keep using the transformer for that charger but also have a charger for them that you plug into the cigarette lighter (12v)... Does that mean that the 14.4 volt batteries aren't getting fully charged with that charger even tho the light turns green???

Bison, thanks for the headsup.

A vehicle with a 12 volt system actually has 13.5 at the battery, and while charging the alternator is pumping right at 14 volts into the battery. I do a test on a battery if it is below 13 volts.
