3010 gear problems

the 3010 has the shifter on the dash.All gears worked well but now gear #5 and 7 and another one don't work.Tried to adjust the connecting rods from shifter to gearbox but didn't help hope that it's not in the gear box
any advice would be appreciated

Henkie, We had the same basic problem on a 76 4230 Syncro-Range 8 speed tranny. Had a lot top do with the Syncros and a 6in bolt in the tranny that stops the shifts from going into the next Range. We had a local Tractor shop do the work they totally reworked the tranny and fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

If 3, 5, 7, and 8 don't work it is probably the hi range synchro and/or collar. Boils down to rebuilding the top shaft in the trans.

Would it be easy to do this repair? What is there all involved in getting to the problem in the transmission?

To repair top shaft in a Syncro-range trans the tractor must be split between clutch and trans case and top shaft removed to replace worn parts.

Requires rear split and remove rockshaft housing to access trans pump which is on rear of top shaft. Need a press for removing collars and bearings from shaft and reassembly. Also need special tool for loading springs and balls in blocker. shop manual is a must.
