Small town utility rates...

Looked at my bill today... about $140 for water, sewer and garbage, up from about $45 when we moved here ten years ago. (7500 gallons of water used.)

Are some of you hurt'in more ore less?

Large electric utility, here. Rates supposed to be regulated by state. Bills have been rising. Even when our usage is fairly consistant. If we rise, due to extra use, (air conditioners, extra water for irrigating garden, etc.) you don't want to know - seems to go up exponentially.

Michigan. More you save, more they charge. CFL's only function was to keep utilities from building new plants. They really make out. Dave

Seems cheap to me. Electric only(includes pumping water), is normally in the $300 range on a smart meter. Very little going on in the barns right now. The charge for electricity was about $140 plus a bunch of BS charges that more than double the bill. I would gladly pay 140 a month if it meant not worrying about the money to drill a new well when the time comes or not paying for the the septic which needs replacing. All garbage is also burnt here. Can't imagine paying for them stupid tags. $2 for a single bag of garbage.

Mine averages around 85 a month. That's electric, trash, water, and sewer. Oh, and $3 for stormwater, even though all of my property slopes away from the road, and no run off goes into the storm drain. The cheap utilities is the only good thing about this town.

Minimum for water and sewer in town is about $77 a month. Don't know how many thousands I'm ahead out in the country by having well and septic.

Water, 4400 gallons 45.00 on rural water district

Garbage, 54.00 every 3 months for 1x weekly pickup of one herbie

Sewer line is a few miles away but it would add about 60.00 based on our water use. We are on septic. Electric on rural co-op runs 200-400 per month for all electric house.

We joined a electric co-op several years ago, rates went down. Average 150 month. Water is a well, sewer is septic. No gas. Our most expensive utility is phones, 2 land lines and 2 cell phones run about 170 a month. Yea, pretty stupid. No city yet, but they are getting closer every year.

different country but we pay for water twice..Pay for the water then pay to get rid of it (sewer) ... Always got a break because was able to install another meter and only get charged incoming for water used outside the house (animals, garden, tanks, etc). Someone got wise to that and measured roof area and charges for rainwater runoff (all goes into the sewer)....

Bob,Where are you located? I manage a wastewater utility and federal laws has made sewer rates expensive,I live in Eastern WV and where in the Cheasapeake bay watershed. All plants above 400000 galons a day has to start removing nitrogen & phourpous this is a cost of average of 20 million dollars per plant over a period of 30 years.I operate a 300000 gallon plant, our operating budjet is about 400000 dollars per year and most of the time we have less than 5000 dollars cash on hand. The cost of staying in bussiness is getting unreal.Garbage is 70 dollars a ton at the landfill and the state sets a daily limit on them and forces them to shut down early each day which drives cost up.Our water plant is 30 years old with water leaks springing up daily, and new requirments needing to be meet yearly.Plants are financed for a period of years then need to be replaced.I think your rates are very comparable to mine and its going to get worst.

I don't like to go there but. our water bill is about $45 a month sewer is based on water bill +250% = $112 plus $20 a month for private refuse pickup. sounds about right to me. I live in western WV.
