Can I sit on the jury!.
Eventually that house is gonna rotate around to align itself with the earth's magnetic field.
There's an easy fix here that the owners are missing. Magnetism will go away if the steel is heated to a high enough temperature. All they gotta do is burn that sucker down and their magnetism problem goes away!

I would venture that the joist were handled by an industrial magnet. Either at the manufactuer site or when loaded onto the truck. Once lifted by the magnet, there would be residual fields left in the steel. If the joists were all keep in the same orientation the effect would compound.
If I remember my physics, current flow in a straight line does not induce Magnetism. The current needs to wrap around the core of metal and be in a DC circuit. Not AC like you find in house wire.
