Have someone interested in a couple parts. I looked up shipping with FedEx and its quite a bit ($125 plus about $55 in taxes and fuel surcharges).

Are there any tricks to getting the costs down?

Will UPS or FexEx ship freight collect?

What type of paperwork for "antique" engine parts?

Thanks.

USPS priority International is the absolute best way. There are customs forms to be filled out. Your postmaster should be able to walk you through it.

Can they handle 55/60 pound packages?

Will look into that.

I shipped some small sheet metal parts a few years ago but didn't think there were such high costs/fees.

As previously stated, US postal Service is preferred.
I had some dumb as a box of rocks e-bay vendor that I had already spoken to and had made it abundantly clear to ship via USPS. She called me back two days after she shipped my torque wrench via UPS. She thought I was going to be grateful for saving me two bucks instead of shipping via USPS.
Sure enough UPS showed up at the door with an additional brokerage fee for clearing customs. It was cheaper to send the wrench back and never see it again.Than it was to pay the brokerage fees.

We have some people at work who have a US address just over the border to send stuff to.

I have to ship a case VAC flywheel and hood latch to an ebay buyer in Canada tomorrow, for a 50# package the cost is $115, I think, via USPS according to their website.

Just hope it fits in the flat rate box [USPS}. The customs form is easy to fill out. I shipped 8 connecting rods to Iceland for 41 dollars flat rate. I shipped to Canada but the rate may not be the full international rate. Trouble is the flat rate boxes don't always fit the parts. USPS will be cheapest. Fed ex is not reliable and UPS expensive.Flat rate boxes are free so you can get some and try to fit the parts first.

There is no "Parcel Post" anymore. You best option is Priority mail which basically takes the place of air mail packages. It gets rather expensive fast if you have much weight.

Finally found the invoice from 2 weeks ago, bought some used Perkins pistons from Fawcett tractor supply in Ontario
The pistons must have weighed 25 pounds atleast, UPS charged him $29.62 Canadian, box had a customs label with a bar code, and got here in 3 1/2 days. I was happy with the whole deal.

I don't think he'll want to spend $240 to go USPS. UPS's website shows $99 for 2 55 lb boxes. Need to call USPS to see if difference with 2 boxes instead of one in one order.

Have always had good luck with FedEx. Have shipped about 2 whole tractors and a milking parlor set that way with only one problem that they paid for. But this time they're pretty salty.

Anyone had any luck cashing Canadian Money orders here?

Here"s a Fed Ex experiance:(Wis. Engine Part)
Fed Ex bought an old warehouse 2 miles down the
road from me. I needed a part FAST, so specified
Fed Ex, thinking I would be the first delivery
in the morning. I tracked the order, and it was
loaded into the local truck at 5:45 A.M. I waited
all day, and saw 2 other Fed Ex trucks go bye.
The order showed up at 6:15 P.M., too late for me
to fix a bailer engine and call the customer.
I asked the driver,"why so late?" He said that he
had a 140 mile route, that included 5 rural villages,(in Wisconsin)My stop was the last one
before the terminal. Since other trucks had gone
by,I presume my package got on the wrong truck,
neverless, i"ll never again specify Fed Ex.

I have the pleasure of residing in Canada, the only way to send anything here is to use USPS. Never send by courier. All couriers force us to pay approx 50.00 for brokerage no matter what the value of the shipped item is.

US postal service however treats us very fairly. I only deal with venders that use the postal service.

It is very frustrating for us as it is much easier for us to source parts in the USA.
