i have never baled corn stalks before. have a 630 nh round baler, got about 3 acres sweet corn i would like to cut and bale. was going to use hay bine and cut then bale. never did it before so just wondering what the proper way to do it is.

With the drought in Texas many 1000's of bales of Corn stalks have been baled down here. I think Corn stalks will be hard on a sickle cutter. Down here they're shredded with a pasture mower, raked and baled.

Neighbors wait until after a good hard freeze up and then wait until they're totally dry, hay bine, round bale and haul in for bedding for dairy cows.

I have baled a few bales of corn stalks. They are hard on the bailer. They usually have a lot of sand in them after they have been raked into row. The sand works just like sand paper on the baler. Having said that, when you are short on feed, you make do.

always thought If I was going to bale stocks I would take a green chopper (flail chopper with the blower and wagon chute) and chop in to forage wagons, then feed, with a conveyor right into the baler at the barn/shed. I guess you could unload the wagons and make a wind-row on a paved driveway and drive the baler along too. Won't have to mow, the stocks will be busted/shreaded up and shouldn't get much dirt that way. Wagons are easier to pull than picking up all those bales too. May take more time if you don't have alot of help and a few wagons to keep up with ???
