Massey Harris 44 Special LP

Is there a way to find production numbers on particular models of these old Masseys. I have a Massey 44 Special LP standard(Wheatland). It has the early 260CID engine which I have heard was rare in the Specials. I've never seen another LP with the wheatland frontend and full crown fenders. Anybody have any info?

I know/have done some work for a local collector that has two 44 LP. I just spoke with him. He said you need to Google Massey Harris and ask you question on some of the Massey Harris web pages that come up. He also read from his Massey book that like the other poster stated. All Distillate, High Altitude, and LP used the 260. The 277 with it's larger bore came it uses in 1953.

Thanks for your reponses. I didn"t know about the 260 engine being standard in the LP models. I wonder why that was? I know this old tractor will get down and pull like crazy. My Dad farmed with it back in the sixties. He said it was the most economical tractor he ever had. Back in the mid 60s when they would have price wars on fuel during harvest time he could get LP for .06 a gallon. This tractor burned 3% an hour which equaled about 3 gallons. That calulates to about .18 and hour to operate. Try that now days..
