8N Ford spark plug metal wire tube

Is the tractor an earlier serial number with a front-mount distributor or a later unit with a side-mount distributor?

The later side-mount style 8N's did NOT use a tube, just a looped strap.

If you DO need a tube you'll have to find a used one. Search the archives at the "N" Board for used parts sources or post there and I'm sure someone will repost the list of some reliable used parts suppliers.

Those wiring tubes are the same as was used on V8 Ford cars in the 30's and 40,s. Auto restoration shops will have them.I looked in my shop buy didn't have one,I had a ,35 Ford Flathead and eac h side had a wiring tube. I think the distributor and distributor caps are the same as well.

John........early N-engines sparkie-wires were NOT very "water-proof" and needed extra protection from the elements provided by the tube. Modern copper-core silicon insulated sparkie wires are SOOooo much better. So unless yer rebuilding a trailer queen or are sphincterly challenged, I would NOT bother to putta tube on the engine. I'd probably use some plastic tie-wrap straps to clippie them together inna bundle to keep'em away from the fanblade and make'em look nice along the length of the engine block.

When I got my eazy starting 6V 8N back in 1992, the sparkie wires were so STIFF they cracked when I removed them to change my sparkie plugs. Yes, OLD sparkie insulation dries out and cracks and the sparkies dance on TOP of the insulation. You doubt? Watch yer sparkie wires on a DARK nite.

I bought some copper-wire silicon insulated HOT-ROD sparkie wires for Pontiac V-8 for the right-angle sparkie booties under the gastank. (cut-to-fit) Simple, eh? ........Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

John----if I was looking for one, I would first try to buy one from one of the guys on the tractor sites,,,,,if that fails,

there is one for bidding on fleabay right now....I would email Old first.

Distributor and caps are different. The right side wire tube may work on the tractor. The car tube bolted to the manifold 3/8 bolts.Tractor used 7/16 head bolts.
