receiver hitch ball mount (straight)??

Hey folks,
When I got the hitch for the wife's Kia sorrento, I ordered the mount with a 4"drop. Been OK with it but just noticed how the trailer rides a little low in frt. Measured a couple other vehicles and my kia sportage and all are the same height within a half inch and 6" higher than the sorrento.
Looked up straight ball mounts and they all look like they have a drop of an inch or more. If I order one and it does drop down some, is it safe to just flip it upside down and mount the ball? Or, since I am 6" off, would getting a 2" drop and flipping it over do the trick? Max weight ever towed would be 3.5 ton but normal would be 1.5 to 2 ton.

Thanks, Dave

You can safely use a hitch in either position for the weights you are talking about. The hitch would be slightly weaker upside down but not much. Even then it is in the weight on the hitch not the towed weight. I have several in the pickups as it seems that not many trailers hitch at the same height. I use them what ever way I need to level the trailer.

Thanks, tongue weight is 150 pounds at most.

T'would be awful hard to pull a trailer, wif an upside down ball, wouldnit? (yuk, yuk, someone had to say it!)

the ones over here can be used either way.. ..remember that the trailer should be level when loaded..

ie when stopping fast, the trailer should be level so it does not push up or down on the tow vehicle.

A Kia can tow 7000#???????

Wow.

Straight or small drop hitch should work fine either way.

It's in the papers on the car.title spells out what size tires you are allowed to run and how much trailer you can pull. In the sorento case it's 3.5 ton with surge brakes and 3/4 without. The sportage is 3/4 and 1.5. Most I had behind the sorento was maybe 2.5 and you didn't really know it was back there.
