Moved a dead bucket truck ended up with an old battery. Decided to drop of at scrap yard as I was going past it anyway. They would not take it.New law went into effect have to show business license or permit. I just know this is going to slow thieves down considerably (TIC).

???? in SC? glad I'm not there!

Rick

I went to O'Rily's auto parts last week to buy a new battery...they told me they would give me $15 for every one I brougt in even if I did not buy another battery.
I took 6 in and they paid me for them.

cut it up, weld it up, turn it into yard art and sell it to the yppies that move in after the farmer is forced out?

I knew about the law, and fiqured Id get grief from the owners, but I took a load yesterday, and a load of aluminum this morning, each to different yards. All they asked for was my ID.

Seems everytimg I go to the scrap yard I end up
bringing something home.. I CANNOT believe what
people throw away.. One thing is 4Sure, what I
take there, stay"s there....

That makes no sense at all, you were only trying to get rid of ONE battery and they want a Business License or a Permit???? Permit for what, to get rid of you own old battery??? That's definately a Democratic Tree Hugger Law there.. Around here it takes them months to figure out that someone that drives a truck that can barley make it down the road that is turning in over $20,000.00 worth of scrap in a month is stealing.... DUH... When it's that much scrap, I can understand questioning it, but ONE battery???? That's just plain nuts.

In Maine you have to show a drivers license when you scrap. The yard gives you a customer #.Payments over 60 bucks are made by check.Crooks are cutting copper plumbing out of houses.Saw a big reel beside a pole, the reel was marked Fiber optic in big letters.

It may be nuts, but thieves do nuts things to make a buck...

If they allowed "just one battery," the thieves would sell "just one battery" 20-30 times a day to get around the law.

Zero tolerance is the only way to deter thieves.

Only Non ferrous metals need a business license or or a free permit from the county.

Here at Sunshine Metals, they had a Deputy waiting Monday morning., outside the gate. No permit, straight to jail. No kidding.

I have no problem with them checking My ID and recording the transaction, but Seriously, a fricking Permit???? Those that are cutting copper out of houses need to be SHOT, if a few homeowners started taking out a few of these dirtbags, the theft would stop quickly. I took a load of junk machinery in last fall, over $800.00, all they asked for was ID, and they paid in cash.

Local scrap yard doesn't even look at ID when buying metal, just sign the ticket for what metal sold and how much, take to the office where the lady issues check for metal sold in the name on ticket.

Hopefully Illinois will start enforcing the laws it has on the books...
90 per cent of the guys hauling in junk autos and trucks are totally illegal...
