way OT package to service men

I am sure some of you have done this and I just wanted to know the best way to ship care package to nephew who is in Afghanistan. How much it will cost with the post office and how long to get it there or should I use UPS?

I have sent care packages to my son in Iraq and it takes about 6 days. They have special boxes at the post office for military, cost is $12.50

Use the post office; UPS opens and repackages what you send, charging you for it. We went through this last year with our middle school school sending several 'care' packages to our servicemen. Ended up costing another $30.00 beyond what was calculated for weight.

Post office is the way to go. I have a son in Africa right now and we send him stuff on and off and use the post office for that.

When i would send a care package to by brother in iraq, we would use the flat rate boxes from usps.

Yep, use the good 'ole United States Postal Service. He should have an "APO, AE" (Army Post Office, Army Europe) address. You will pay postage to NY, NY and the MPS (Military Postal Service) will take over delivery from there. By the way, I am a current Active Duty Army First Sergeant, And after two deployments to Iraq and one to Afghanistan I THANK ALL THOSE who send those care packages!!

As I understand it. You must have his full name. What unit he is with and all information on the package. My sister has a son in law over there. He told her the package cannot be delivered unless it has all information.

I commend you for thinking of him,and sending the packages.
I got them,and also got things from bubbies that got them when I was in Vietnam ['68 & '69] always good to have something from home.
Many never got one. Ed

Hi Peter,
My son is on his way for his 2nd tour of duty to Kuwait as I write this to you. When he was deployed the last time overseas, my wife and I used USPS. They have flat rate shipping boxes. You could stuff it as full as you could for around $9-$10 range. My son would usually get his care package in as little as 4-5 days. I tell you what, when they get these packages, this means so much to these soldiers, words can hardly describe it. Thank you for your military support. Take care and God bless you.

USPS to APO is the way to go.

Yes make sure you ask at the PO for the special,APO flat rate priority box. you will also need the large custom form to go on it. $12.95 for the large (not so much) size. about 5 days to get there.

the best way is using the usps. Most of the packages i"ve been sending to my son are taking 10 days.
