A lot of good suggestions , No, no sherman tranny but on the speed thing the hand lever mechanism is gummed up with rust and I think would be impossible to adjust tension so that the lever is supposed to return to idle ,as per the book , that leaves the govenor to control revs under load , not happening , all revs are controlled by the hand lever ?, Someone mentioned alingment of the PTO drive shaft, I accidentally parted the two halves/sections of the drive shaft and mated them together , Is it possible they could mate in more than one position ?, and so be out of balance , Yes , this tractor is new to me and i'm learning fast while the work piles up.The bush hog and the drive shaft has been used on another tractor without any problems/

Hand lever? You mean the throttle? You have to get that working of course, to have a useable tractor. Think their is a friction pivot, loosen the nut on the pivot and see what's up? Or maybe I'm not understanding.

When you look at the pto shaft, the knuckle at the tracotr end has to match the knuckle at the implement end. If it's a square shaft & you took it apart, you coulda put it together rotated 90 degrees. Take a look at it, are the knuckles the same when you look straight down on it, or are they opposite each other - one looks different than the other turned a 1/4 turn? If they are not the same, they end up knocking against each other (it's the way they spin, high-faluten mathamatics can explain it....), and make a horrible racket.

If your throttle is stuck and you aren't fixing that; and you're using a big bush hog on a tractor without a live pto, you _are_ aware of the dangers of the brush hog moving the tractor long after you push the clutch in - would be safer with an Over Running Coupler on your pto shaft. You really need to throttle down your tractor proerly too.

Paul, Yes , I mean the hand throttle ,sorry about that , The drive shaft is telescopic and is molded to fit one inside the other , will check on position of uni joints to see if they match up for alignment , I think the throttle linkages must be binding as the PTO shaft on the tractor spools up fairly quickly ,the ORC is new but is not a snug fit on the PTO shaft , a bit wobbly , I must have a combination of errors , When the guy who sold it tells you all is well ???????, ime to take another look. I haven't yet noticed that the govenor is working.
Thanks,
Ken
