Super A not wanting to run

I got a farmall super a awhile back and it ran great till 2 weeks ago, it started out as a spit and sputter every now and then, but got way worse as time went on, to the point of sounding like it was getting hardly any gas, i had a friend of mine put a carb kit in it (zenith carb), cleaned the jets good, put it back on and now it wants to flood itself after it sits for any length of time, and when i do get it started you can go 100 feet and it will just die, but it will start right back up, and repeat the process, occasionally the spuddering will come into play. I have adjusted the float up and down, checked to see if its getting gas and it is, i'm about at my wits end. Would getting a new carburetor help? I just don't know what to do next, i've never had this much problem out of one tractor in all my life!!!

Thanks

Those Zenith carbs are great simple and usually trouble free. 7 of my B and A tractors have them. Your float is part of the problem and the rest is either dirt or linkage not hard to fix. If you would like i can go thru it to see whats wrong.

Did you shake that float to see if it has gas in it? It may be sinking from the gas inside the float. Do you have a ballast resistor between your ignition switch and coil? Hal

Check the bowl gasket to make sure the vent holes are not covered. Gaskets in some kits don't have the proper holes to allow the bowl to vent. Will cause the same problems you are having.

Might want to check to make sure you have enough flow coming out of the tank to the carb. Rust and dirt inside the tank may have blocked the siphon part of the sediment bowl.

hey gene, yeah if you would take a look at it, i'd be glad to send it to you, i'm thinking its probably the float, i tried it today and it would start good and run like normal but still wanting to die after about 5 minutes, sometimes after i started it back, it would spudder awhile but then smooth out and go on, i did get my cultivating done though. you can send me an e-mail with your info if you'd like, my e-mail should be open.

You say that it is getting gas. How did you check? It sounds like the filter in the tank is plugged so you have enough in the line to go 100 ft. then after it sits for ten minutes it has enough to go 100 ft. again. Check the easy things first.

i checked by removing the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and taking the line loose from the carb. Its getting plenty of gas cause after it dies i can start it right back up and go on, don't have to let it sit.

You could have an ignition problem. I have had coils and spark plug cause these type of problems. It not always is the fuel.
