hat is unloaded.......how many volts with starter engaged?

I don't know, I pulled the starter off, took the battery out to
charge it, and went home, or get a new battery tomarrow!

can you turn the engine by hand with crank if no you have an engine problem can you tow trhe tractor to start it ??

I guess my battery dident have enough charge. I charged it for the last hour, touched the stater to it and it spins fine. I guess after I get the tractor running I will get a new battery. thanks everyone.

Make sure it's nice and clean and shiny where the starter bolts to the bellhousing. Need good conductivity. Cable could be weak, though, too.

volts means little. need to have a load test done on it to see if it has enough amps left to crank.

The no load test is pretty worthless. Spinning fine with no side force on the pinion does not load the bushings.
6.3 volts after a full charge and then sitting for an hour. But crank amps is the judge. Have it tested. Or charge it up and test the volts with it cranking Less than 5.8 while cranking (measured across the battery) is not too good. If it falls to 5.3 in a few seconds it is toast. Be careful to not get run over while testing. Heavy ) gauge cables are pretty much required! Jim
