I think i ff'ed up again.
Was nice hay weather on Canada day so i started cutting.
I guess the hay needs washing already cause its raining.

When we needed rain to grow it we didn't get enough, now that is has to be cut in hopes of a good second cut, it won't quit raining long enough to do it.......

A month ago you could have kept it. 1st cutting went to seed before it dried out enough to get in the field. Now we will take it all.

Mother nature's sadistic sense of humor......

Few years ago, I had 37 acrea of hay down. The day we planned to bale it, a gully washer developed right over it. The other side of the road was bone dry. 1/2 mile north it was bone dry Same story east and west. It was the only rain within 100 miles and it fell on me................

We was there last yr and the year before.
Dry as bone all spring.rain in hay time on a skimpy crop.
Started feeding in august and sept.

I Wonder why i keep doing it.
God hates farmers.

You mean it doesn't rain every day in Canada? Oh yeah, forgot. The days it snows, it don't rain. Although I had haying equipment that 'could' do big acreage a day, I stuck to ten. Like a good union man. No more, just try to do atleast that. That was 8% of my fields, so if it got cut, or worst yet raked, then it rained all week, well, I was miserable but not out of business. I know the midwest always had radio stations with 24 hour weather, but to get up to date radar at the flick of a button, wow. You going to ed with Lyle and the patient? Get some biltong from the boerbooties?

Don't think i could put up with Lyle for more than a day at the time,he yaps to much,i would prob kill him.lol.

I almost wish it was winter again,i hate haying in the rain.

I hate cutting the lawn too every couple days.
Wife don't want that job anymore either after i gave her sh!t(now that! was stupid) for blowing the engine in the JD 112 a couple yrs back when i forgot to check the oil level.
I treatened to trade her in for a goat(to mow the lawn) till i realized goats don't cook.
She also pointed out that i prob would not like having to **** the Goat if i wanted tail

I was going to cut 10 acres tomorrow evening, but now the forecast shows rain every second day until Sunday.
I should learn some lessons from the Dutch dairy operations in the area: fertilize the bejeezuz out of the field, make haylage 3 weeks ago, and second cut will be ready when the rains calm down in a few weeks.
But instead I'm still looking at 90 acres to be cut when I'm off work long enough.

Been there done that with the haylage.
To labor intensive and to expensive for a cow/calf guy.
I'm just by myself.
I got 300 acre to do,round bale it all.
i like to cut and bale without turning or raking the swaths.
Doesn't always work out that way.

While I was cutting first field yesterday, felt a downblast of cooler wind, thought I was going to get caught in a thunderstorm. Called son to check radar, - nothing showing, and clouds abated a bit. Finished cutting late in the evening, so not much drying overnight. Went back in and raked today. Some was showing good signs of drying. Maybe baleable tomorrow afternoon. When I was checking field a few weeks back, there was a beautiful growth of alfalfa, and some clover. Was seeded last season, along with an oat crop. By the time I got to cutting it there was a large presence of weeds, particularly a weed we used to call "pepper grass." Doesn't make good hay, and animals don't much care for it. Disappointment, but you gotta get it off. Just hope the stuff will dry enough to bale tomorrow. Gotta work Tuesday.

What about Baleage? Young feller next to me is doing that for beeves! 1 55HP tractor, a discbine, a 4x4 round baler & a bale wrapper! He does 50 - 60 bales a day all by himself!
