2000 F250 A/C Question

The A/C on my F250 isn't cooling very good.

Wasn't low on freon and it DOES seem to cool good at times, so I took the blower box apart in the dash with engine running and the A/C on full blast and found the heater core scorching hot.

Does that mean there is a hot water cutoff that isn't working??

Or does the heater core always stay hot - and the blower box somehow just shut the air off from flowing through it while the A/C is on???

Thanks for any advice,
Howard

I know NOTHING specific about your truck, but it IS common for some systems to simply use a "blend door" to route the airstream away from the heater core when heat is not desired with NO need for a water shutoff valve.

Then, I went to the Rock Auto parts lookup website and they DO list a vacuum operated water valve for a 2000 F250 (I looked it up as the 5.4 gas engine, specifically).

Have you had a look to see if there's a valve in one of the heater hoses? Then, check the vacuum line to it for damage and connect a vacuum gauge to the line and look for a change of state (vacuum/no vacuum)as the temperature control is moved between hot and cold.

on newer trucks there is no h2o shut off per say, it all done by vacuum, when you turn/slide knobs, they open/close trap doors to route the air. chances are maybe a vacuum chamber is not working properly. a hose might havea slit/pin hole leak. your hot/cold know should operate door for heater/ac. just a thought to get started on checking..

Some have a water control valve and some don't. The only time the water would be off is with the MAX mode selected.
How do you know it wasn't low? Do you have a recovery machine? Another cause for poor performance is an engine fan clutch that freewheels too much.
