My farmall 350 cranks fine will run about 5 mins then dies. When I try to restart it its slow to turn over, battery is new and I even have tried another battery same thing. The battery cables get hot when trying to crank, I have clean all battery connections. It is a 6 volt gas tractor any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my frist post. I Have been reading this forum for about a half of year, great site. Josh

You should install 00 cables with soldered lugs.
When the engine quits running you need to check for fire to your plugs. You need to do this asap before anything cools. If there's no fire your condenser or coil could be defective.

If there's good hot fire to your plugs you probably have a fuel problem. Check the fuel flow from your tank to the carburetor by disconnecting the gas line at the carb and see if there's a full stream of gas to the carb. Catch the gas in a clean container. If this looks ok remove the fitting from the carb where the gas line connects and look for a screen that may be plugged. If the screen is clean you probably need to remove the carb and soak it in carburetor cleaner and blow out the jets with air. Hal

I was going to check for gas flow tomorrow, had not thought of checking for bad coil or condenser yet will check that also. The battery cables look fine to me no cracks in covering.

The cables visual condition is not important. I have seen way bad insulation on old wiring that still conducted massive amps. Someone replaced the original thick as your little finger wire (not the size of the insulation, the size of the conductor) with automotive wire (probably 4 gauge) it needs heavy 0, or 00 gauge wire to supply starting power.
6 volt pulls almost 2 times the maps of 12 volt systems. It is a sure bet if the wire gets warm/hot. Jim

Ok I checked fuel flow today after work and it was a stopped up fuel filter, don't know why I didn't think of that, put new one on and a new 00 battery cable. She cranks fine and no more hot cables. Thanks for all the advice. Josh

NAPA makes a special filter that is for gravity feed systems. It will work. Other plastic filters are really not successful. I am glad the cable made it spin. Jim

The little ones Fram has if they are inline and placed downward so fas can flow work very well people cant understand how to install them iv been using them for yrs and know of lots of other that also do and get alond just fine they are very good at catching stuff the brass screen in the sediment lets thru just doing their job.
