140-150 HP tractors

A 50-series JD is a 1980s tractor, a MX is a 2000s tractor. You get all kinds of bells and whistles with a tractor that's a generation newer. I believe they were both good models though. If all things are equal (price and hours), I would go with the MX.

Horsepower: John Deere 4450 is about 140 PTO. The 150HP MX150 is probably rated about 130 PTO HP. The MX has more electronics; therefore if something goes wrong!!! You will more likely have to call a dealer. If you have the tools You can work on the 4450 for the most part. Also if the 2 tractors are the same price. You "should" be able to get a 4450 for a whole lot cheaper $. A 4450 top price should about where the MX;'s low price begins. & I mean a really good 4450 compared to a less than well cared for MX!

Both are mechanically decent machines. The 4450 has good old mechanical levers to control things, the MX has switches, wires, electrical connections, fuses, well, you get the idea. Jim
