performance chips

For a diesel pickup, they can be made to do whatever the parts will stand. Power, milage, driveability, anything you want. The improvements for a gas motor are pretty limited, and not worth the money, IMO.

I put one in my 2003 Ford, and then in 2007 duramax. They really made those trucks run better. You will get 2-3 MPG better and more performance.

My 2011 Ford runs real well without one, so I will probably not add one.

Definitely can increase your horsepower but don't look for any increase in mileage other than the fact you have more power without loosing mileage. I have a 2002 Dodge Cummins with Edge Juice Attitude chip in mine. Like it for towing through town where you have stop and go driving. Out on the road, stock mode will get me anywhere I want to go but for that extra shot when passing, it is nice. No difference in mileage regardless which level I run.

If your looking to pick up some fuel economy on a diesel truck, and just a little more pulling power their great. If trying to turn a work horse into a race car you can, but your gonna go through a lot of dough playing find the weakest link. As far as gassers go keep your money.

I agree with the others, you WILL tear something up if you are looking for dramatic power increases. There is always a weak link somewhere.

I bought a Superchips tuner for my 2001 Chevy 2500 4x4.

It can modify your shift points, etc. I bought it looking for a little more MPG.

I see no change either way in MPG, but you can over ride the factory settings meaning that your miles per hour and RPM are no longer limited. That is nice if you want to run in excess of 100 MPH.

Otherwise, save your money.

You also need to remember to set everything back to factory stock if you need to have your vehicle worked on. The chip tuner will just become an expensive paperweight if you have not set all back to OEM before other code readers get involved. They are VIN specific, if the codes get cleared by other than your tuner there is no way to ever make it work again.

The VIN can be changed if you switch vehicles as long as you have properly cleared the old information.

Your decision, but I feel save your money unless you need more top end. DOUG

I have a 99 Superduty, drove it 60,000 miles stock, lots of towing.

I then added a Superchip, and a Banks exhaust. I have the chip set at its "Tow Safe" setting. I never use the power for "evil", racing starts etc. I tow a very heavy 5th wheeler, and a heavy gooseneck. Rarely use the truck except to tow.

Very big difference. I roll down the interstate and rarely downshift from OD. Mileage is up, 1 1/2 to 2 mpg towing. 3 to 4 mpg when running unloaded. It is much less work to drive as I flow with the traffic and enjoy the ride.

As said earlier, I rarely drive the truck unloaded, however did make a trip last year to Ohio to pickup a trailer, ran 5 over the speed limit all the way there, got 20.5 mpg.

Towed a 4,200 lb gooseneck home, got 14.1 mpg.

My 5th wheeler pictured, I get 11 to 12 mpg.

I would buy both items again.

a lot depends, is it gas or diesel, 2wd or 4wd. some chip the motor for the towing power, some chip to the hilt for show-off mode, burn out at stop sign/light. tearing up transfer cases/rear-ends. chip up one step for towing is o-k as long as you don't keep it to the floor and build up heat in the turbo/exhaust on diesels. Gassers are a little different.....lloyd, need air ride on the rear end, will level out and ride soother, i have 12k 5th, did it- done that.

Depends, About 10 years ago we were young and dumb and my friends and I all ran chips along with many other mods, we had lots of fun and spents lots of money fixing stuff. I got away from the mods as life changed, but I bought a new Dodge with the 6.7 Cummins a couple years ago and wanted to delete the EGR and DPF. I got a programer from H&S that allowed me to run code free and It has 4 power settings(stock-hot). The hot tune is really fun but I would never run it towing and I don't tow with anything but stock power. You can make big power but you'll need to rebuild half the truck to take it. Anyway fast and cheap and it wont reliable, fast and reliable and it won't be cheap.

Lloyd, get some air bags for the rear end. She's squatting a bit too much. I bet you're over gross with that rig.

I had one in my F350 Powerstroke, programmed by DP Tuner. I had I think 5 setting on it dont recall now. I gained about 3 - 5 mpgs with it. Even at it highest setting, which i think was 125 (more) hp, my Duramax still has more power. if you drive it right, and not show off with it, you can gain mileage with them. the one experience I have had with a chip on a gasser it didnt gain much of anything.
