Fiat 130-90 Hard Shifting

Tractor has trouble shifting into gear. Shift lever is very hesitant to move into gear. Powershift works just fine.

Once it gets warmed up its no problem, but in the cold/winter I usually can't move the tractor until she's warmed up. Any ideas or is this normal?

Another 130-90! Very unusual, not too many of them around my neck of the woods.

I have a 130-90, great tractor, parts are expensive and hard to find though (I get them through New Holland but most dealers don"t want to bother due to low sales volume). I have had shifting issues, particularly with only certain gears and ranges. One thing I found was that the shifter rod can get dirty where it enters the transmission housing under the cab. It"s a bugger to get to without removing the cab. You may want to check that area.

On my tractor I did not find that shifting had much to do with the tractor being warm or not. If it didn"t want to shift, it just wouldn"t regardless of the temperature.

Yes I did, thanks for asking. I started with a 2 acre plot and I spread a little extra, so adjusted and moved on to the 15 acre field.

Long-story short: I did about 3/4 of the field before I ran out... by the end I was spreading as little I could and driving as fast as I could without coming out of the seat just to get a bit of coverage :)

I'm sure I was spreading too thick / driving too slow / overlapping too much at some points, but it's done now! Thanks for your help.

Spreading fertilizer without one of those fancy foam droppers is more of an art than a science. Those make it less likely to have overlap. Also, changes sometimes need to be made due to current conditions. For example, many times the spreader must be adjusted to spread more if the fertilizer has absorbed any water because of high humidity. You see, it will clump up, and then the setting must be larger to spread the same amount.

Good luck with your farming endeavors, SF
