I now have the crank shaft, the main bearings and the rods/pistons all in. I have not torqued them down yet going to wait for the cam to come in before doing that so lining the gears up to get them in time will be easier. Still have now found a head. Called the local salvage yard and they have a complete long block that is a crate engine. They say it has the price tag still on it that says $1250 and I can get it for $350 with a complete gasket set but I do not need the block and it is a 250 so guess I'll look around a bit more

That don't sound to bad to me. If the head is ready to bolt on and sooner or later you could get something for the short block. By the time you find a head,buy it,Send it through the machine shop. You will probably have $350 in it. That is unless you put bigger valves and have a port and polish job done then it will cost a lot more.

Ya your right there but right now I do not have the $$ to get it but if they still have it on the first if the month I may still go get it. Of course I would have to go look at it. From what the guy said it has been sitting on a shelf for who knows how long so it could be a big piece of rust in the inside since it has no sheet metal parts on it

wait!! crap i see where your at, my dad HAD a 292 last i saw it was laying on a pallett outside , with a hole in the block, it was a RACECAR motor, was punched out, racing cam, race shop in Rolla built it .he's gone on a cruze won't be back until sunday or so , i'll look tomorrow and see if it is still there and would he sell, don't get yer hopes up, but i will ask,

call 575-393-7910 that is wooleys automotive machine in hobbs,nm they will more than likely have a 292 head alreadyrebuilt..292,s were used here a lot in the past as irrigation engines.if not i can supply several heads that need to be rebuilt.almost any automotive machine shop in west texas will probably have one in stock.
