Hello:

I have a tandem dual axle gooseneck trailer, Its a little over a year old and I have been having axle issues as far as brake problems. Anyone else encountered this issue of brakes dragging and brakes being tight when trailer is empty with brakes off making tires squeal when stopping and making hubs extremely hot? My trailer has been in shop 3 times with a total of less than 2000 miles put on trailer in a year and a half. They are working with me as far as providing free parts/service and its going back again to a certified shop with quality parts installed, I guess we will see what happens again, just wondering what happens after this time if i have trouble, as warranty runs out july 2012. Any others have problems?

my goose neck trailer would lock up brakes sometimes and sometimes would pulse to a stop...found out the wire going to r.r.brake was pinched causing it to do funny braking...need to trace wiring to see if a wire is getting pinched or rubbing to cause a grounding when brakes are applied...also check trailer brake controller in truck to make sure there is a good ground and circuit going to rear plug ...

I am by no means and expert on electric brakes . But the one time that i had and issue with my 1987 Blair tandem duel goose neck i was coming back from Iowa and had a magnet short out on the way out so i cut it out of the wiring . On the way back i lost two more and with a 330 and a 320 John Deere Show tractors PLUS a Massey 97 i had a load. I was real close to the Dexter factory and i swung by just to BUY parts . I walked in to the main office and told the girl at the ft. desk that i had lost all but one brake on my trailer and i needed to BUY some parts for it . Next thing i knew there were a half dozen people talking to me about my problem and the next thing a guy by the name of Ron Kenis came up and told me to back into the service bay and there were four guys pulling the wheels off. when i left there were four new brakes complete from backing plates to new seals and bearing. And when i asked what the bill was i about fell on the floor when he said NO CHARGE. We do not want you to have any problems with our product.

As long as someone else is working on it you are OK,but for your own need you need to know which axle you have.10KGD or 10KHD because there is NO commen ground or parts between them. The 10GDs have the same brakes as the 8Ks and 9Ks.Very few dealers stock or sell the HDs because of the $$ difference($1500-$2000).

Since 2005 all Dexter electric brake axles are forward self-adjusting.

With that in mind, you need to turn your BC resistance lower for normal use and you also need to adjust the controller to each load weight change.
There's no more of this set it and forget it.

If I havn;t pulled my trailer in a awhile, I'll set the BC a tad tight then drag the trailer brakes for a mile or so to knock off the rust, then reset the BC for my load weight.

This works for me.

It seems that if the problem was as simple as you not adjusting the controller correctly the certified shop would have thought of that. Plus you say they are replacing parts so it seems the shop thinks there is a problem in the axles.

Since it was bought new; has been in the shop 3 times already; and needs to go to the shop again; I would be looking into your states lemon laws.

When the shop is working on the trailer when they test it are they using your truck to check it with or theres. It is possible that the trailer is OK and the problem is in your truck. I know that was the problem I had one time.

Don't forget to check all your grounds when you trace wires. Had a broken ground wire on a gooseneck backfeed power through the brakes to find ground through the controller.
