TeeRay 10-20-2011 08:14:40 138.163.0.43 Report to Moderator	I need some help determining trailer size for my tractor. I bought a 1953 Super M that has 18.4x38 tires. Got it for 1250.00. Too good to pass up. The rims are currently dished out. If I dish them in and slide them all the way in on the axles, will they fit on an 83-inch wide car hauler with 5200 lb axles. Right now she sits at 92 inches wide. Tow vehicle is 2005 Ram 2500 Cummins diesel. Thanks. [Reply]   [No Email]
caterpillar guy 11-11-2011 06:32:35 66.188.53.165 Report to Moderator	Re: Trailer Size in reply to TeeRay, 10-20-2011 08:14:40   If you dish them in, with them at the outer ends of the axle they will be at or near the setting for 30"rows, or about 60" wide on center. I have never tipped one over with that setting and have been running both an H and MD for over 40 years with narrow front. A 7,000 pound trailer should be adequate for an M or SM, more trailer never hurts though. The issue might be more of stopping it all or truck capability.   [Reply]  [No Email]
B-maniac 10-20-2011 16:22:05 207.241.137.116 Report to Moderator	Re: Trailer Size in reply to TeeRay, 10-20-2011 08:14:40   Most all of the factory built 10,400 (9990) w/6" channel (doubled from hitch back to 1st axle)will be refered to as implement or equipment trailers and are plenty of trailer for this tractor. Your truck is, also. Practice getting your brake controller right for the load and speed you will be travelling before hitting the road. Improper setting and no brakes at all will give the same dissasterous results. Go no less than an 18 footer , twenty is best. If trailer is steel, it should weigh around 2400-2700#, (20'er) Stay away from the 1500-1900# stuff for tractors.   [Reply]  [No Email]

You need to dish in one or both wheels, or get a deckover trailer.   [Reply]  [No Email]

bobs old iron 10-20-2011 11:03:06 75.171.167.148 Report to Moderator	Re: Trailer Size in reply to TeeRay, 10-20-2011 08:14:40   you might get a lot of different responses,,,some will agree that the bigger the better , for safety,,,some will say a small trailer will handle...on that note, i have a f-350 4-dr p/stroke, enough power to pull, have a 26ft goose-neck with 5th wheel hook-up, [have a r-v also] easy to hook up,,,no problem hauling my W-6, 6k lbs, and a J-D, handles weight and rides nice, good braking, handling...what ever suits your needs and wallet..just remember safety, for you/family/friends...my opinion   [Reply]  [No Email]
