soundguy, it has the 3.73 rear. i had a 2002 f 350 powerstroke with a stick. this thing feels better than the 02 with the same load and it really goes when empty. the oliver weighs 9600lbs and were going to a pull tomorrow that's 60 miles one way. that will be a good test . chuck

Boss's dad just got a new Hemi. It was $10K less than the ecoboost, plus the cost of the leather seats. He didn't seem real keen on the Ecoboost, it only gained him a 1 MPG mileage rating jump over the hemi. But he was also watching the factory guess-o-meter for his fuel mileage. Dad told me the one well tender he deals with a lot is getting over 20 with his ecoboost, and that's with pipe fittings and tools in it.

I'll be watching for real-world (and not magazine "real-world") reviews.

did you get the trailer tow package, with the intergrated braking system, and is it a xlt, lariet, or plan jane? thinking o some day when i can afford it, to get rid of my 350 p/s. get 1/2 ton again.

charles, thanks, tractor weighs 9600lbs, went to a tractor pull today in the hills of nw new jersey and orange county,ny total of 110 miles averaged 10.7 mpg and pulls really good.chuck

With that weight, my 5.3L Chevrolet 1500 gets 7.5-9.0 mpg. Looks like the 3.5 L, TT is up to snuff. After reading this post I researched the 3.5 a little more. I found nothing but good reviews on its towing abilities.

Nice looking rig. If FORD keeps changing engines about every year, they are bound to end up with a good one or two. The reality jury is still out on the in house built diesel.
What is your trailer weight empty? Are those 7K axles?

So far I have heard nothing but good about the new Ford Diesel, I know of three in my area that have over 35,000 miles on them and none have been back to the dealer for problems. All the owners are bragging about the fuel milage and the power. My only problem is you can only get them with an automatic transmission and I hate automatics.

I know FORD replaced a number of clutches behind the old 7.3. Maybe they are only offering automatics so they do not have to buy more clutches under warranty?

i've heard them things are suposed to make people want to move from the larger older diesels. I'd have to drive one to see though.. I like the 7.3 in my f450.. but it has 4.88 rear.. so don't go too fast.. :)

Nice lookin' rig! Must have good weight distribution, 'cause the rear bumper ain't on the ground. I know the GN makes a difference there.
When Ford went to the new body style in '97, they were one ugly pos. It took them a few years, but they finally have them looking like a truck again. Good luck with it.

As a reply to the new ford diesel. They should be reliable because they are suppose to be coming from their Land Rover div. If anyone knows anything about land rover diesel engines they are Reliable .
