Anybody remember one like this truck?? Just saved this one from parking impound-- runs,no smoke, no rust great tires and aluminum rims. Had to rebuild C-6 tranny but the ol girl won't go faster than 50 mph. I'd like to keep for a local chore truck just need a little more speed.
Any ideas ?? oh it's a "Centurion? conversion.

What size tires are on it? Can you put taller ones on? That'd be quickest and cheapest. Next would be a 5 speed or 4 speed auto swap, a 4 speed auto from behind a 7.3 would bolt up but I don't know about making it shift right. Then a gear ratio change. Randy's Ring and Pinion has a ratio calculator on their web site.

Might want to consider a Gear Vendors over drive unit. The last time I looked at these they had a unit that mated to the C6 tranny. It is a heavy duty unit and will handle the diesel - they are expensive if purchased new. Google gearvendors.

Even with the C6 and 4.11's that truck shouldn't be on the governor until 72ish from what I remember with something like a 235/85/16 tire. Typically they had 4.10's in them and some had 3.55's - might want to check rearend ratio to start, then decide if it's running out of power to go past 60 or if the governor is set improperly. Beyond that a popular option was to have a gear vendors (or US gear/DNE) gear splitter on those trucks - some of them were overdrive, some were underdrive - do you possibly have an underdrive unit on the truck and it's locked in the lower side?

I hear Gear Vendors are nice units, but the first-gen Cummins guys will pull them and swap in an A518. You have to go to low range every time you stop, and they don't pump any fluid when you are stopped, everything inside is driven by the driveshaft.

If you do run one, get the divorce-mount one. It bolts to the frame and acts like a carrier bearing, and you can put it in another truck regardless of what the next truck is.
