I pull a goose neck with 2 antuiqe tractors and was wondering which would better.

I have a 87 F 250 with a 6.9 diesel now and I'm thinking about something newer. It doesn't get much beyond tractor pulling season.

i would go with v10 simply because it"s newer. i have a 99 v10 with 165000 miles runs good as it did new and pulls strong with goose neck and tractors. 10- 11 mpg pulling. 460 is fine but older and probably won"t get 10 mpg towing.
in my opinion newer super duty truck is far superior

I have an older truck 1981 with a 1985 460 never had a power problem just can't go past a gas station ! about 8 mpg no matter what your doing.

Either one will be fine. Newer trucks are nicer, but then I can work on this old one.

Ya I was reading some posts about how the 460 Ford does good compared to the early diesel. And my '87 F250 runs good and the chassis is solid but the electrical and the interior is tuff. She's got water leaks around front and rear windows, Etc. And cold weather starting of old diesels here Minnesota adds in as well.

Then reading about the big gas engines got me thinking about going with gasoline. I was looking at similar used trucks for sale online and diesels were usually several thousand more.

I won't drive it more 7,500 miles per year; I suppose you can buy a lot of gas for the lower cost of trucks with gas engines in them.

Sounds about like my situation 3 years ago when I was looking for a newer truck. Wanted a 7.3PS, but couldn't find an affordable one that wasn't rusty or worn out. Bought a '01 F350 with the V10, 5-speed and 3.73's. Very happy with it. Averaging 2 more mpg in day to day driving than my old F250 with a 2 bbl. 351, 4-speed and 3.73's, and WAY more power. Got 15.7 mpg empty on a trip to n/w IA. And V10's are about the cheapest used Fords around.

I pull my gooseneck trailer and pulling tractor with a 03, F250 5.4 Gas Automatic. Does pretty well, more than a old 351. I would definitely move up to the newer cab, it is so much quieter and the suspension is much better, although it looks the same. Last weekend I got 10 mpg on a 200 mi trip to a pull. Vic
