Gm tbi to carb adapter

Does someone make an adapter to go from the tbi to a two barrel gm carb? Putting a newer engine in an older truck.I no i can change the intake and do away with it just thought it would be easier the other way. thanks

check with local speed shops, maybe auto parts stores who clerks know what they are doing. post on c-list in your area in auto-parts/ WTB adapter for ----, see what responses you get.

I tend to agree with you on that B&D , but (just guessing here) may be some problems with linkages and sensors especially if the transmission was not swapped too? I've done a few engine swaps (includind a 292 Y block with 3 deuces into a 49 Ford pickup) and they're never as simple as they seem at first glance.

Check Summit Racing and Jegs. That is where I would start. It matters if it has Vortec heads when buying a manifold though.

I plan to transplant a 5.3L or 6.0L (or maybe an 8.1L  ) into my 1979 C20 using a TH400. Just a lot of wiring and a computer flash to delete some "un-needed" emissions sensors.

I can buy a used, low mileage, salvage engine complete with computer and wiring harness for the price of a new long block and new accessories.

Good luck.

A TH700R4 will have a lower 1st gear. Take less HP to turn. Offers an extra 4th gear. Has a lockup torque converter for mileage and less trans oil heating.
Will take the load if built right with the 5 gear planetarys and a few other updates.

Check out "Painless Wiring". I'm pretty sure they offer stand alone wiring kits to use O.E. fuel injection on older vehicles. I agree with B&D, but I'd go with an early 4L60E to get better TCC control than the mechanical 700R4.

Putting this engine in my nephews truck, which he is only 16. Already smoked one motor. Him and the boys playing in the mud. Knocked a hole in the oil pan and seized her up. Have this 1991 350 laying around. Found a manifold off an 87. Last year they used carburetors on the new style motors. Truck is a 4 speed,1980. So fuel economy and all that jazz doesn't mean anything when you're young and dumb. But I believe he learned his lesson. We'll see.
Thanks.

Can't change the intake without changing the heads also unless some aftermarket outfit makes an "adaptive" intake.

Totally different angle of incidence and bolting.

Also, have you thought about that little fuel pump deal?

Yes you can. It's only the two center bolts on each side that are at a different angle. You can hog the holes out of the older intake manifold and it will bolt up. Or, the Edelbrock Performer intake 2104 will fix the problem also. Either option would be better than adapting a carb to a TBI intake, if such an adapter even exists.

460anger, you found a 1987 carb intake? Then you have what you need?

Also, Allan brings up a good point: I have read you need to check the fuel pump rod bore to make sure there is no casting flash in there before bolting up a fuel pump.

Yes the intake off the 87 will work. Like I said it's the last carb manifold that will fit the new style heads. It was only used in 87. Mostly on trucks. Center bolts are tappered. The 91 block still has the fuel pump mounting plate. Just have to put the rod in. Not 100% sure when chevy did away with the fuel pump option on the block altogether. Used to build alot of small block engines as I had snow plow trucks and race cars. But got out of that years ago. Always been die hard chevy. But junked all that stuff and went to tractors. Red ones of course. But that fads dying off too. Not sure what to do next. Maybe knitting. HAHA!!! Thanks for the replies.

I took up acting. More auditions, June 5th for Anne of Green Gables. Doubt I get the lead however.

You might find that it won't run right without your "un-needed emissions sensors". Once the engine is warm the computer drops into a closed-loop mode, where it takes the info from the sensors to better meter the fuel and set the timing.

The 4L60E will be much easier to find, it has a 4th gear that is overdrive and BETTER TCC control. Be careful where you get the 5 pinion planetaries. The cheaper ones are weaker than the originals.
