Living Quarters equipped trailers

Any advice?
Started looking at those combo trailers with the travel trailer living/cooking quarters combined with car or horse trailers.
Should be able to haul the 4300lb pulling tractor enclosed in the back. And cook, shower, drink beer and sleep in the front?
Found some Canadian spec units that are 8-1/2ft wide instead of 8ft wide.

You're talking about toy hauler type units. I've talked to several people that have them for dirt bikes and quads. One fancy one had fold up beds in the cargo area that could be raised up out of the way electrically. It had the same problem(perhaps worse) as other models that just have a screen(soft wall) seperating the cargo area from the living area. The smell of oil and gas and dirt and everything else doesn't go away no matter how much you clean the toys, even if they are left outside while sleeping.

However, models with a solid divider and a heavier door to the living area were much better at keeping the smell and dirt out of the living area. If you looked at one with a solid divider and no door would be OK. It would prevent anyone from tracking dirt from the cargo area into the living area. For hauling a 4300 lb tractor in the back, you'd have to make sure the trailer axles were far enough back so the trailer didn't wag the dog driving down the highway.

be carefull how you heat it here in wisconsin it seems that every year someone dies from c02 poisoning I think they try heating with the L.P. gas powered heaters without enough ventelation

BD - my son bought a nice used one a few months ago, and they love it. It was used by the previous owner to haul a couple Harleys. Son and grandsons have a band, and they use it to haul their band equipment. Good luck

Advice? Yeah plan on the second tractor. A friend put a pick-up mount camper at the front of his trailer. He has plenty of room behind for both his and his wife's tractors. He tows with a small fifth wheel, but there is no more load than what I haul with my SRW Super Duty.

Seen several at tractor shows made by setting a slide-in pickup camper on the nose of a gooseneck equipment trailer. Sleeping area extends forward over gooseneck, secured by turnbuckles. Easy drive under on/off with camper jackstands. Provides clean/nonsmelly cabin area and trailer will usually have heavier net cargo capacity than toy hauler. Hope to make one using 28' low deck trailer/8' camper leaving 20' deck-enough for 2 small tractors. Generally cheaper to make than purchase of toy hauler, allows multi use of trailer, and less camper depreciation. Locally, jury still out on whether it becomes a camper, thus semi-exempt from some DOT scrutiny or not? Just my thoughts, good luck.

I have been looking at them for years and am convinced that they are the way to go. If they can haul a race car, they can haul a tractor. The one I want is a little more than I can spend right now, but maybe in a couple of years. I see two or three at our local tractor show every year and am very envious.

Figured the rear section could be used to hang moose quarters from on the way home. Should be able to cool the vehicle/moose area too?
Some of the bumper pull units are actually very large. Towing a 30+ ft trailer with a tractor or car in the back maybe less stable than a gooseneck hitch?

Toy haulers tend to be VERY nose heavy without the "toy" in back, to compensate.

Watch the floor thickness. Many only have 3/4" plywood floors. Tractor haulers usually have 2" plank decks. You do the math.

(quoted from post at 17:05:01 04/11/11) Cobble/ingenuity: sorry didn't see that beauty and style were part of the design parameters.

You must admit, some of those rigs look like they're barely held together.

Form follows function. If you do a good job of securing the camper using proper hardware, it won't look cobbled together.

A gooseneck is much more stable than a conventional hitch in almost every instance. Other than the weight, you don"t know the trailer is back there, while the conventional hitch will sometimes be doing the driving....lol.
