What Do You Think About This Trailer? (PICS)

A friend of mine who does a lot of scrapping purchased this trailer at an auction yesterday. He is just going to haul it in for the metal value. I was talking with him last night about it and he says that its a very well built trailer. All metal, single axle with duals. It is 8 ft 6 in. wide and 18ft 7 in. long without the dovetail. He said that the tires have a lot of life in them yet. He is asking scrap price for it, $850.

If I don't buy it from him he is going to haul it into the iron pile TOMORROW! So I need to make a decision by tonight.

What do you all think?

I think it would be a great trailer for hauling my tractors around on. It looks well built and sturdy.

Thanks for your input!

I'm a scrapper, if you buy it for $850.00, use it once and don't like it, you can sell it for $850.00 at the same scrap yard. The single axle will put more tongue weight on your truck, and a second axle can be added.

Would be cool if you fabricated a GN for it. I'll bet that axle is more than a 10K considering the size of the trailer. I'd bet it is a 12K or more. Yep, put a goose neck on it and it would be a fine trailer. The only issue is does it have brakes? If it does I'll bet again and say they are air brakes. Do you have a dump truck to pull this with that has air brakes? No? Then converting to electric will be interesting unless it is a standard type axle. Maybe $300 in parts to add brakes.

Let us know how it turn out!

buy it, it will always be worth scrap value, its kind of a pain to see somebody scrap a perfectly usable, fixable piece of equipment, that trailer is heavy duty as well as probably fairly heavy itself, your probably going to want something a little bigger than a 1 ton to pull it with a load, or option 2, fix it up nice, and sell it use the money to buy you a nice trailer for your 1 ton

Looks like the rear axle off a deuce-and-a-half military truck.

Does it have a differential, or is it a straight axle?
