Today I got a shock, I needed a glow plug relay and a low back pressure sencer for my 7.3. Went to 4 locial parts places and they wanted $195 to $250 for the relay and $390 to $581 for the sencer WOW what a sticker shock! And worse part was it would take 2 to 3 days to get them. I was running after some other parts for the tractor and passed a Ford dealer so on the way back I stoped in to see if they had what I needed, The relay was $69 and the sencer was $119 and walked out of there with both. First time in my life the dealer had the parts and was cheeper than the parts stores. Felt so good I bought a Loto ticket. With this kind of luck who knows come next week I might be driving a new truck? Bandit

I found out the same thing when I went to buy diesel rated anti-freeze.

All the local anti-freeze was premix non diesel rated for $18gal plus. (This has been a few years ago.)

I went to Ford and got straight run diesel rated antifreeze for $10gal. My clutch master/slave units were $198 at NAPA and $138@Ford.

Guess who I check with first when looking for parts...lol

Last summer I needed a spacer for the rear bearing on a Nisson 4WD PU Advance wanted $9.95 each plus tax. went to dealer bought two for $9.95 plus tax. some times it pays to shop around.

That is not all that uncommon. I found out the hard way, bought a fuel filter at NAPA, had to change the cap to put the NAPA filter on it, well, a few weeks later, truck started running weak, and started smelling diesel fuel, real bad, stopped, fuel all over the engine, thought I had blown something, finally after looking, found the aftermarket was poor quality and the threads had pulled and the cap was on crooked and spraying fuel, took cap off, put back on, a week later, same thing, went back to Ford, got another new cap and the right filter and have never had that problem again.

Just put a new transmission in my 96 F-150 and had the same issues! Instead though, the parts stores couldn"t get anything for my particular transmission. The dealership had it all and for really really inexpensive prices!

Over the last week or so I have learned alot, If you own a Ford PowerStroke diesel and it needs parts start calling Ford dealers. I found OEM Glow Plugs (set of 8) for $69 Lift Pump for $49 Glow Plug Relay for $69 Low back pressure sencer for $119 even a new (not rebuilt) Turbo for $650 all from Ford! Now Ford dealers have diffrent prices on the same part so some phone calls maybe needed to find the best price. Its cheeper to go to Ford if you need parts for your diesel. Not everthing is cheeper but it never hurts to call. Bandit

Some of the Ford parts departments sell parts online, and can look them up for you. You can look them up on their site, but it's not the same look up that they have in the dealership. I ordered a part from a Ford dealer in Las Vegas, and he had to order it from somewhere else. He got it to me in Michigan faster than something I bought online at the same time in Missouri.

GM isn't that way!

Wife's car needed a wheel hub. $450 from the dealer, 50 bucks online with free shipping.

I know that for tractor parts, the ford dealer isn't too bad on some things, but can be murder on others. Gotta shop around!
