1992/1993 Ford F350 With 7.3 Good-Bad

My daughter is looking at a 1992 or 1993 Ford F350 ext. cab dually. It has a professionally rebuilt 7.3 IDI non-turbo engine with low miles. Price is really good on it. It looks like the owners took pride in the truck. It will be used for hauling a 5,000 pound trailer and load occasionally, on short trips.

Any areas to watch? It has always had radiator additive for cavitation. They have receipts for every repair and oil change since new. It is a folder about 2" thick.

Those are junk. Stay away from it! could you post their name and number? Just in case I wanted to just go by and look at it.

Have a 1991, five speed, conventional cab and single rear wheels. She pulls a 4700 pound piece of construction equipment with ease. My only caution to you would be to carefully check the auto transmission if so equipped. Other than that if it is a sound truck she will not be disappointed.

If cared for the old 7.3 IDI's will run forever but they were way underpowered when it came to pulling a heavy load....Not many were ever sold new in my area as everyone stayed with the 460's until the Powerstrokes came out.

She bought it for under $3,000. It is a 1993 extended cab dually in Indiana. She drove it again and talked with the people for over an hour. The engine is a Jasper rebuild with about 80,000 miles and automatic transmission is rebuilt by a good shop with about 50,000 miles on it. Both have remaining warranty. No rust on the body and never any body repairs. Interior looks almost like new. These people take excellent care of their equipment as it reflects on their farm and business, and they take pride. The people bought a crew cab because their kids are getting taller and need more leg room. And it made a good tax deduction this year.

I have a 2006 power stroke now. I wish I had one of those old ones. I had 1999 Expedition that my wife ran for ten years. The bottoms of the doors rusted through. The salt gets in where the outer skin laps over the inner skin. Now that I know that, I lift the rubber strip on my 2006 and spray WD-40 in there periodically to get the moisture out. Otherwise it's in there eating 24-7.

The biggest mistake I"ve made was getting rid of my 93 diesel 5 speed. It was a good puller, an automatic might have been better with the non turbo but I never had any trouble at all with the truck. I traded it for a Chevy and well it sure woould be nice to take a few steps back in time.
I don't think you can go wrong.

Sounds like a great deal to me , but like Showcrop said , watch those door bottoms (rust), they can get away from ya and then it's too late.

can"t go wrong. dependable and cheap to fix. have a 5 speed 4x4. it"s not super fast but it will pull all day long. just won"t win any speed records. i"ve had mine grossed out at 20,000lbs. from cicinatti to charlotte Nc and never got under 35mph on all those hills, and 13mpg.

Do you live in the Cincinnati area? If so, I live down US50 west of you about 50 miles. I have traveled to NC a few times myself, by motorcycle, car, pick-up, and motorhome. Quite a few hills to cross.
