Chevy Avalanche

My wife likes these and want"s 4 full doors 4wd, full size. A 2500 with the 8.1L 4sp auto seems to fit the needs. I tow up to 10,000 pounds with my gmc 1500 5.3L . I let the speed drop on the hills to keep the rpms under 3500 - 4000 rpm. any one have any experience with these?

I may be wrong but isn't a Avalanche just a 1500 4 door with a real short bed. I have never saw a 3/4 ton one. My neighbor has a 02 2500hd with a 8.1 gas engine and a allison trans, It is a good trailer puller. He also has a 09 2500hd with the 6.? I have pulled a 24 ft stock trailer with them both and the 02 is by far the best truck. The new truck will keep up its speed but the trans is always shifting and the motor is screaming up near 6000 rpm. Another neighbor has a new chevy diesel pulled the same trailer(going trailriding) pulled all the hills in top gear. no bussing coming from under the hood.

they were a suburbin chasisy. They made a 2500 modle 02 - 06 . 8.1 and a 4l80 or it was a 4l85e there is a site for them but I'm looking for a non avalanche fan club sites veiws. If someone has used a suburbin with a 8.1 2500 3/4 ton that would probely be like the same thing.

It's not a full 3/4 ton chassis, but it will handle whatever you're towing better than the truck you currently have.

Beware that the 8.1L will use about a quart of oil every 1500 miles even if it's in perfect working order. Apparently putting in a 180 degree thermostat and using Mobil 1 cures that.
