My neighbor the DOT Cop said they are starting to crack down on trucks and gooseneck trailers. So I went down today and licensed my truck, a 1998 GMC 2500 series, in combination to 18500 pounds is as high as I can go with this truck. Also had to drop registration down on my trailer to 12500 pounds. So now I can haul around 6000 to 7000 pounds legally. Cost me $355.00 a year now for registration. But boy do I feel safe now. Sons of B&*%$@S!!!!

If your truck is a diesel you will want to keep the red fuel out of it. That is a new source of income for the state when they find red fuel in a truck! Make sure you have a medical card with you when driving your rig. Might as well get a USDOT number on too. Good luck trucking!

Many states will allow you to license for more than the truck data plate shows. You may have to get better tires to take the load. As long as you have paid the tag fee, they are 99/100'th happy.

Oh, it ain't just your state that's getting the long green from pickups with goosenecks. There are several states that have been milking that gravy train for several years.

Down here in SC, I am seeing a lot of Goosenecks, as well as all kinds of landscaper's trucks and trailers being pulled over.. Yesterday, at the local truckstop, I saw a Transport Officer going over a landscape truck, seemed to be giving the driver a real hard time, he sure did not look like the kind of officer I would want to get pulled over by.
Meanwhile, last night, a shop just down the road had 2 Heat Pumps stolen off the pads. It is a shame that the law is more interested in harrassing honest folks, rather than stopping crime..

I know. Dad got stopped with the dump truck early last spring to check the fuel. There aint much I can do if it was in there when I bought it. The trans cooler was leaking so I may have been right in my first assesment that it was trans fluid under it and not red fuel. Got it warmed up good last week before it went in for inspection and found the leak. We bought it last October, but it hasn't been run 100 miles yet. 89 Cummins 2 wheel drive, underneath it almost looks new.

I'm a retired LEO w/25 years service as well a former state certified LE instructor, so I what I'm tralking about. If ever a transpoprt cop, weight cop, or whatever, wants to draw fuel out of your truck, politely refuse to permit him/her to do so without a search warrent, which him/her will not have. You will probably be intimated into giving consent, but don't be. A search without consent, a warrent, or probable cause (just operating a diesel vehicle IS NOT probable cause). STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!!!

I assume you do know that having your trailer licensed for over 10,000 pounds means you need a class A CDL in order to pull it. My dad just had to take the test to get his.
