How can I make a pretty much stock 6.5 diesel smoke? I rebuilt the motor, and put new marine injectors in it, and strait pipe, but it really doesn't blow coal, I would like the upgrades to be simple and cheap. thanks 2cylinder

If ya just want to make smoke then dribble some fuel into the exhaust...
Otherwise, you need to get into the pump and back the stops out on the cam rings.
The other side of that equation is that the 6.5 will be shorter lived than it ever was, which wasn't much.
I'd leave it alone if I was you.
If you want smoke that probably won't kill the engine, get a Cummins...

Buy a cummins and swap out your 6.5 for it, then tell everyone its a 6.5.

contray to popular belief, "blowin coal" as you so eliquently put it is not a good thing. It actually robbing you of power.
Your engine has to push that soot out of the exhaust as well as run and try to make power. hard for it to do both. Unfortunatly you'll never get that 6.5 to keep up with stock trucks of other brands of its day with hauling capacity. I just upgraded from my 6.5 early this year. Take it from someone with some experience. If your gona keep it a while, you've already sank some coin into it, and if you don't want to be doing head gaskets again, go to this website www.ssdieselsupply.com, buy all of Walts upgrades and run it like its your only transportation.

These truck were only 190 hp stock and all thats really out there is 80 hp chips which I'm not sure even gets you 80 hp more.

If you want to maker her smoke here's the formula below.
lots of fuel + not as much air = smoke and less power.

A good running diesel should see a shot of smoke when you pour on the fuel but the turbo should force enough air in there to lean it back out to an optimum range which will really make that truck run.

BTW: I blew a headgasket hot shoting it around last year. These engines are known for cracked heads and blown headgaskets when trying to make power.

Don't get me wrong I really liked that old truck and wish I still had it for a beat around truck.

Just my opinion, take it for what its worth

Have fun.. .
