how to move a dead backhoe

Looking at buying a case 580 backhoe that does not run, any ideas on how to move it about 40 mile to my place?/

get it running is the easiest way then hire a truck and equipment trailer to haul it to you, if thats just not possible, it will be very time consuming and a general pain in the donkey to fool with, but it assuming both outrigers are down as well as the hoe and bucket, you may be able to raise each one by holding the control in the 'raise' position while another loader GENTLY raises the piece up, once up you will have to chain it in the up position to keep it there when raised this way there will not be hydraulic pressure under it to keep it in the up position, then the other loader can push, pull , drag or whatever works the thing onto a lowbed trailer, if you do this count on spending most of a day doing it, if ther is no other reason it wont move, like a blown up final drive ect, good luck with the project!

Skidding it onto a trailer? Dump water on the bed- slides easier. Other idea on hyd works well- give it time.

Check with an equipment dealer that has the right stuff. Several years ago I bought a dead forklift about 100 miles away. I hired a forklift company in town to go pick it up and set it on their truck, and bring it home and set it where I wanted it. They put their bigger forklift on a trailer and did all the work. All I had to do was pay. It was something like $250.00. I had a tractor dealer deliver a tractor for me about 40 years ago, that was pretty cheap, too. I had a combine delivered once, but I don't remember how much that was, it was one they sold me.

You need to get it hauled on a trailer. If you can at least turn it over while lifting the hydraulics off the ground would make it a lot easier. If not, you will need another machine to lift the hydraulics up while you pull the levers. You may need to chain or strap the hyds. up. The hoe may have a boom lock or pin to hold it up. Dave

If you do pin up the hoe watch your trailer height or you may end up with pieces after you snag something, If you can get a roll back to move it works best for broke down equipment for us in the past.

Dont know on the 580's but on the 580 b there is a hydraulic plug in on the right rear i think. If you hooked this plug in with a jumper hose to another hydraulic source you would be able to run all hoe and down rigger functions on the rear of the machine. If you got the boom, and down riggers locked up you could winch it back onto a trailer with the loader down, but watch you boom height on a raised trailer like was mentioned. We have hauled my brothers 580b on a gooseneck flatbed with a half ton pickup several times.
