it is illeagle to operate any slow vehicles on INTERstate hiways [ie, I40, I70, I80 ect] in the whole US, in most states it is leagle to operate tractors ect on INTRAstate hiways, [ ie us 30 us 70 as well as other state hiways, i live by a 4 lane hiway [ us 70] tractors, combines, road construction machinery are routinly driven on the hiway to where they're working, and almost every day we have full size backhoes driven upwards of 50 miles one way to a job, these are owned by a certain group of people who while they can buy the equipment, they can never seem to come up with a truck and trailer to haul them on, these are sometimes driven right by a dot inspection point for trucks near here, they dont seem to have a problem with the tractors at all

I think Jim has a point. The guy that this is all centered around was not moving equipment, or doing anything farm related. So I don't agree with his choice of bringing his tractors home in the way that he did. Think about this for a minute, if someone had ran into the back of this guy and was injured. Then the injured person decided to sue, who do you think would win. Their would be violations found I assure you. My point to all this is be careful and watch out for others on the roadways.

I don't know where you are from, that makes a big difference. It's common where I'm from to transport tractors you buy by roading them. 100 miles isn't a big deal. That guy's case is extreme, but hardly unusual. Neighbors bought a tractor from Gary's (before he died) and drove it to Kersey Colorado. Would I transport a tractor through Denver by roading it? Probably not, but when you live someplace where heavy traffic on the highway is meeing a car every 10 miles, I would drive.

about 90% of the problem with all this is that we have already changed too many laws to help the stupid.
if you can not see far enough ahead to see a tractor pulling something you shouldn't be on the road.
if you get in a head on becasue a farmer was on the road with a tractor, you shouldn't be on the road.
accidents happen, but the large picture tells that their are far too many people that are not watching what they are doing while behind the wheel.

The interstate that goes by me has a minimum posted speed of 40mph, and says no farm machinery or construction equipment.

It would be scary to go even that fast/slow, I almost get blown off the road doing 70...

I have been reading about this off and on since July. This my friend is a no win topic. We all have our opinion and no one is going to change it. Maybe we should have our own November election and vote Agree or Disagree. No other choices, just Agree or Disagree. The vote will be tabulated and the subject will end. Its been 5 months people lets move on. The Iron Memories blog site has a post on all the opinions pro and con. I like there web site. They have a lot of good articles. I think they are a fairly new blog. www.ironmemories.com
