Hey Guys:

I found a truck for sale for $4800 OBO. Its a 1993 chevy 3500 regular cab dually. Air,cruise, tilt, granny low 4 speed, and the 'big' 6.5L turbo diesel. When I saw truck i had hoped it had a 454 in it but it is diesel. It has factory bed and hasn't had a gooseneck hitch. Truck is clean inside with good tires but has some rust around the cab corners. What are these trucks going for and is the 6.5 worth anything at all? We have a 6.2L in a blazer and it has been reliable but has no power. Would this truck pull anything or be weak?

P.S. I'm used to Dodges, I've owned 3 with the cummins.

The 6.5 is a decent engine and will last a long time if cared for properly. Compared to your Cummins (I own a 12V) the 6.5 will feel like a dog. It's much better than the 6.2, but nowhere close to the Cummins. You can wake them up a little bit, but you can't do near as much to them as you can the Cummins. (I doubled the flywheel output of my 12V just by turning some bolts and screws). $4800 doesn't seem off the mark IF the truck is well maintained and clean. Exactly how bad is the rust? Crawl underneath and take a real good look at things. Make sure someone hasn't done some creative bodywork to make it look better than it is. Also, ask the ownder if they have any service records or receipts. If they can't produce anything or the body is worse than it looks, chew them down on the price. If you're not embarrassed by your first offer, it's too high. Good luck
