Hi guys,

Im in ohio and have been looking at jd 5010/5020s. What are some good trucking companies to use for hauling tractors that are several states away? I see several in texas,Colorado, dakotas, etc. just trying to see how I could get one home from a long distance if I get one bought

Valley Trans Grand Meadow MN, Diamond Trans WI,Warren Trans. Put an ad on the hauling forum here. I've used it with good results. Some times it takes a few days or so. Some depends on how fast you need/ want to move it and price.

Check on some unofficial shipping costs before you get too serious on buying. The quotes may dampen your buying enthusiasm. I am hearing quotes of $4+ per mile.

Try Fr8star.com. My son used them earlier this fall to get a 3010 from MD to central OH. Very satisfied with the service.

I used fr8star and faith trucking it work great TX to WASHINGTON state

If the tractor has the longer axles it will become an oversize load and the price will jump up some for that. It will also probably now become a full truck load instead of a partial, unless they can load something before the tractor is on. I have done that then either unload the other piece afterwards or side unload it at a dock or with a crane forklift first if it was in route.

Several years ago I purchased a Super 88 Oliver tractor in Iowa and the Bush Hog Company hauled it to me in Alabama. They made a run out in that area to deliver new cutters and needed a load to haul back down south. You might check with someone in your area who make runs like that and need a return load.

Midwest Transfer based in Monticello Iowa. 866-862-4842. Ask for Deanna. I have used them many times. Very professional. Rates have gone up so get a quote before you buy

I used Valley Transportation from Grand Meadow, MN. a couple of times with fair rates and good results. They did a nice job.

Would you still be concerned with oversized load permits if hauling it yourself with a pickup and tandem dual trailer ?

Oversize and overweight permits apply to all. So yes, if its oversize you are still supposed to have permits if you are hauling it yourself on a pickup and trailer.

Yes. You can get a over sized load permit for that.
I wouldn't go through a Freight broker though, they add their price on top of the trucking company, just costs you more money.

If it is over 102 wide or hangs off the back over 4 feet is over 53ft or over the legal height for the states or state it is in then you will need permits for all of those dimensions. Does not matter whether you or somebody else hauls it. there are some differences in different states. IL if it has a wheel base and ag no permit needed as long as it is not over 13'6 WI if you stay off the interstate and not over 10 foot wide and ag no permit needed. Check with the states you would be hauling it through ahead of time for some of those things. Some states will even allow night travel if not over certain sizes and have lights for the corners and widest part of the load. Again state particular on this. NE is 14'6 high is legal and most of the states west of the Mississippi are 14 foot height though MN and OK are not then A lot of them will allow a bit over 14Foot before needing a pilot car with it. Duals do have to come off for travel. considered reduceable load with them. There are some places you can get way with out though Like I bought a Tater windrower in ID it was as wide as the tractor I was going to haul from there to ND so we could leave the duals on that time. Do check the route before hauling for restrictions if you decide to haul it yourself. There is a book for that with the latest new rules on oversize. Called The oversize Load and Pilot car Directory has the sunrise sunset and travel times in it for each state plus pilot car ads if you need one. Don't plan on hauling during a holiday like New Years or Christmas and any other time like that there are travel restrictions for those days also. Some even no travel during those days.

Well lets look at this for a second here , you are talking and OVERSIZED load as anything LOADED on a trailer that is OVER 8 foot six inches wide is and over sized load now , Now in SOME STATEs on STATE highways in the whelm of travel i USE to run in Ohio USe to let you move ag and ind. equipment on a trailer up to 10. 6 wide up to 13'6 tall with OUT permits Well that just faded off into the sunset sorta over night with vary little fan fare as i found out the Hard way . the tractors in question are all over 8.6 wide at the rear axles , Yep ya can keep the tires dead on the 8.6 deck but them axles will get ya everytime . Earlier this year i got all excited over a Tonka toy on the west edge of Hoosier land Yep the tires would be legal it was them pesty axles , the move was and easy one almost a straight line . I did some checking to see what they wanted . The hauling of it was going to cost way more then the asking price . to move it 392 miles and trust me there is no such thing as a BACK HAUL in oversized . I even had this GOOFY thought that we could go out stuff a new clutch in it and just drive it home , i can plot A goat path way home stayen off the four lanes . I almost needed to go talk to my head shrink to calm the idea . Then i watched a U Tube vid . of a nut case up in Saskatchewan That farms big time over a 100 miles from the home farm and moves BIG equipment taking a full day from one place to the other then buys a farm almost 400 miles away and DRIVE equipment on the road that far. and i thought i was nuts.
